There are small bumps on the upper jaw?
Hello Doctor: This evening, I suddenly felt that there were small, raised bumps on my upper palate.
After looking in the mirror, I noticed that they are small white bumps, and there are quite a few of them.
I would like to ask if you know why this happened suddenly? If it doesn't improve in a few days, should I see a doctor?

The above condition may be caused by inflammation or infection of the maxillary oral mucosa.
If it persists for several days without improvement, it is advisable to consult a dentist for further evaluation and treatment.

More Info
When you notice sudden bumps on the upper jaw, especially if they are white and numerous, it can be concerning. There are several potential causes for these bumps, and understanding them can help determine whether you need to see a dentist.
One common cause of white bumps in the mouth is the presence of oral mucosal lesions, which can include conditions like oral thrush (a fungal infection), canker sores, or even benign cysts. Oral thrush, caused by an overgrowth of Candida yeast, often presents as white patches or bumps and can be accompanied by discomfort or a burning sensation. Canker sores, on the other hand, are small, painful ulcers that can appear on the soft tissues of the mouth, including the gums and the inside of the cheeks.
Another possibility is that these bumps are related to a condition known as Fordyce spots, which are small, painless, pale bumps that are actually enlarged sebaceous glands. They are harmless and do not require treatment. However, if the bumps are painful, inflamed, or accompanied by other symptoms such as fever or difficulty swallowing, it could indicate a more serious condition, such as an infection or an allergic reaction.
If the bumps are persistent and do not resolve within a few days, it is advisable to consult a dentist or an oral health specialist. They can perform a thorough examination and may recommend diagnostic tests if necessary. This is particularly important if you experience additional symptoms such as swelling, pain, or changes in taste, as these could indicate an underlying issue that needs to be addressed.
In summary, while some causes of bumps on the upper jaw can be benign and self-limiting, others may require medical attention. If the bumps persist, worsen, or are accompanied by other concerning symptoms, seeking professional advice is the best course of action. Regular dental check-ups are also important for maintaining oral health and catching any potential issues early on.
