Delayed menstruation?
My last menstrual period started on February 15, and the previous one was on January 18.
My periods are usually very regular, and I have only experienced a delay once, which was just three days.
Since then, my periods have been on time.
I had sexual intercourse with my boyfriend on March 2, March 3, and March 17 without using any contraception, but we practiced withdrawal.
I expected my period to arrive by March 14, but it hasn't come yet.
On March 20, I bought a pregnancy test and it showed negative results.
Now, it has been nine days since my expected period, and it still hasn't arrived.
However, I have been experiencing a lot of acne, bloating, occasional sharp pains, and a frequent urge to urinate.
At night, I feel like my heart is racing.
What should I do? Could this be related to staying up late? However, I haven't had such a late period due to staying up late in the past.

More Info
Delayed menstruation can be a source of concern for many women, especially when it deviates from their regular cycle. In your case, you mentioned that your last menstrual period started on February 15, and you typically have a regular cycle. However, your period was expected around March 14 and has not yet arrived, leading to a delay of over nine days. You also noted that you have had unprotected sexual intercourse, although you used the withdrawal method, and you have taken a pregnancy test that returned negative.
There are several potential causes for delayed menstruation, and understanding these can help alleviate some of your concerns.
1. Hormonal Imbalance: The menstrual cycle is regulated by a complex interplay of hormones. Stress, changes in weight, and lifestyle factors can disrupt this balance. You mentioned experiencing stress and changes in your sleep patterns, which could contribute to hormonal fluctuations. Stress can lead to elevated levels of cortisol, which may inhibit the production of reproductive hormones, resulting in delayed menstruation.
2. Pregnancy: Although you have taken a pregnancy test that returned negative, it is important to note that testing too early can sometimes yield false negatives. If your period does not arrive soon, consider retesting after a few days or consulting a healthcare provider for a blood test, which is more sensitive than home urine tests.
3. Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS): This condition is characterized by hormonal imbalances that can lead to irregular periods, weight gain, and acne. The symptoms you described, such as increased acne and abdominal discomfort, could potentially be related to this condition.
4. Lifestyle Factors: You mentioned that you have been experiencing increased stress and possibly changes in your sleep patterns. Both of these factors can significantly impact your menstrual cycle. Even if you have previously experienced late periods due to stress, the cumulative effect of ongoing stress and lifestyle changes can lead to more pronounced delays.
5. Underlying Health Issues: Conditions such as thyroid disorders or other hormonal imbalances can also affect your menstrual cycle. If you continue to experience irregularities, it may be worth discussing these possibilities with a healthcare provider.
Given your symptoms of abdominal discomfort, increased acne, and changes in urination, it would be advisable to consult a healthcare professional. They can perform a thorough evaluation, including a physical examination and possibly blood tests, to assess your hormone levels and rule out any underlying conditions.
In the meantime, consider adopting stress-reducing techniques such as mindfulness, yoga, or regular exercise, which can help regulate your menstrual cycle. Maintaining a balanced diet and ensuring adequate sleep can also support hormonal health.
In summary, while delayed menstruation can be concerning, it is often caused by a variety of factors, including hormonal imbalances, stress, and lifestyle changes. If your period does not arrive soon or if your symptoms worsen, seeking medical advice is the best course of action to ensure your health and well-being.
