1. Blood in the stool 2. Itching around the anus
1.
On March 28, 2016, I noticed blood in the toilet after a bowel movement.
It was clearly coming out with the stool, not from the stool itself.
There was also blood when I wiped, and the amount was slightly more than before.
Previously, I had occasional minor bleeding when wiping (for several months), but it was not significant, so I didn't pay much attention to it.
I have a regular bowel movement every morning after getting up, so I always thought my digestive system was healthy.
However, today the bleeding occurred, and when I pressed on the area around the anus, I felt that the left side seemed a bit more protruded and there was a slight pain.
I'm not sure what it could be.
I have hemorrhoid ointment at home (the medication description states it can be used for internal hemorrhoids, external hemorrhoids, anal fissures, itching, etc.), so I applied it.
I'm unsure if I should see a doctor about this.
2.
The skin in the area below the genitals, between the legs, and in front of the anus occasionally itches.
Previously, I would sometimes scratch it while sleeping, and this has been ongoing for a while.
I'm not sure if I should be concerned about it.

When it comes to the presence of blood in stool and anal itching, it is crucial to understand the potential underlying causes and when to seek medical attention. Blood in the stool can be alarming and may indicate various conditions, some of which require prompt medical evaluation.
1. Understanding Blood in Stool: The presence of blood in stool can arise from several sources within the gastrointestinal tract. Common causes include hemorrhoids, anal fissures, diverticular disease, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), and colorectal cancer. Given that you have experienced blood during bowel movements, especially if it is more than what you have previously noticed, it is essential to consider the possibility of hemorrhoids or anal fissures, particularly if you feel a lump or experience pain on the left side of the anal area. Hemorrhoids are swollen veins in the lower rectum or anus that can cause bleeding, especially during bowel movements. Anal fissures are small tears in the lining of the anus, often resulting from passing hard stools.
2. When to Seek Medical Help: It is advisable to seek medical attention if:
- The bleeding persists or worsens.
- You experience significant pain or discomfort.
- You notice changes in your bowel habits, such as diarrhea or constipation.
- There is a change in the color or consistency of your stool.
- You experience other symptoms like weight loss, fatigue, or abdominal pain.
Given your description of the situation, it would be prudent to consult a healthcare professional. They may perform a physical examination, including a digital rectal exam, and possibly recommend further investigations, such as a colonoscopy, to determine the cause of the bleeding.
3. Anal Itching: The itching you describe in the genital and anal area can be caused by several factors, including irritation from moisture, poor hygiene, infections (such as yeast infections or sexually transmitted infections), or skin conditions like eczema or psoriasis. If the itching is persistent and bothersome, it is also advisable to seek medical advice. A healthcare provider can help identify the cause and recommend appropriate treatment.
4. Self-Care Measures: While waiting for your appointment, you can take some self-care measures:
- Maintain good hygiene by cleaning the area gently with mild soap and water.
- Avoid using harsh soaps or scented products that may irritate the skin.
- Consider using over-the-counter hemorrhoid creams or ointments if you suspect hemorrhoids.
- Avoid scratching the area, as this can lead to further irritation or infection.
In summary, while occasional blood in the stool and anal itching can be due to benign conditions like hemorrhoids or skin irritation, the changes you are experiencing warrant a medical evaluation. It is always better to err on the side of caution when it comes to symptoms that could indicate a more serious condition. Seeking timely medical advice can lead to appropriate diagnosis and treatment, ensuring your health and well-being.
