Menstruation is delayed but pregnancy tests are negative?
Hello: My menstrual cycle is typically 28-35 days (only in April and June of last year was it 35 days, with an average of 31 days).
After a miscarriage in early November last year, I took a break from contraception for three months.
The first days of my menstrual cycles were as follows: 11/30, 12/28, 1/28, 2/24 (this last one lasted about two days and was almost finished...).
I haven't gotten my period this month (it's already been 37 days, but I only saw one line on the test yesterday).
I had intercourse on 3/5, 3/9, 3/13, and 3/18 (I was worried about being pregnant, so I didn't have intercourse after the 18th and didn't specifically test for ovulation).
Is it possible that I ovulated later? If I test in two days, is there a chance of being pregnant? Or should I consider taking medication to induce my period? I hope for a healthy baby to come to us soon~ Thank you!
Niming, 20~29 year old female. Ask Date: 2016/03/31

Hello, if you suspect you might be pregnant, it's advisable to wait for a chance to confirm.
If your period is more than a week late, it is recommended to see a gynecologist.
Wishing you good health.

When dealing with a delayed period and negative pregnancy tests, it can be a source of anxiety and confusion. Based on your description, it appears that your menstrual cycle typically ranges from 28 to 35 days, with an average of around 31 days. Given that your last period started on February 24 and you are now 37 days into your cycle without menstruation, it is understandable to be concerned.
First, let’s address the possibility of pregnancy. You mentioned that you engaged in sexual activity on March 5, 9, 13, and 18, and that you were cautious about potential ovulation. If your cycle is typically around 31 days, ovulation would likely occur around day 17 of your cycle, which would be around March 12. If you had unprotected intercourse around this time, there is a possibility of conception. However, since you have taken multiple pregnancy tests and they have all returned negative results, it is less likely that you are pregnant, especially if the tests were taken after the expected date of your period.
It is important to note that home pregnancy tests are generally quite accurate when used correctly and after a missed period. However, if you tested too early, it is possible that the hormone hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin), which is produced during pregnancy, was not at a detectable level yet. If you suspect that you may have ovulated later than usual, it might be worth waiting a few more days and testing again, as hCG levels can take time to rise.
Another factor to consider is that stress and lifestyle changes can significantly impact your menstrual cycle. You mentioned that you have been trying to conceive and may be experiencing stress related to this. Stress can lead to hormonal imbalances that may delay ovulation or menstruation. Additionally, factors such as changes in weight, exercise habits, or health conditions can also affect your cycle.
If your period does not arrive in the next week, it may be advisable to consult with a healthcare provider. They can perform a blood test to check for pregnancy, which is more sensitive than home tests, or evaluate other potential causes for your delayed period. Conditions such as polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), thyroid disorders, or other hormonal imbalances could also be contributing factors.
In summary, while the likelihood of pregnancy seems low given the negative tests, it is still possible if ovulation occurred later than expected. If your period does not arrive soon, consider retesting or seeking medical advice. Remember that your health and well-being are paramount, and a healthcare professional can provide personalized guidance based on your specific situation. Wishing you the best of luck on your journey to conception and overall health!
