The back of the head hit the wall after sleeping?

Hello Doctor, I accidentally hit the back of my head while lying down to sleep the night before last.
At that moment, I experienced a strong, brief stomach pain, but no other symptoms.
The next morning, I woke up with severe, intermittent stomach pain, poor appetite, dizziness, and vomiting.
After that, I began to have strong, persistent stomach pain, and I went to a clinic for pain relief injections.
However, even now (on the fourth day), I still experience intermittent dizziness and headaches.
Should I go to the hospital for further examination?

More Info

Experiencing a head injury, especially one that occurs while sleeping or during a fall, can be concerning, and it’s crucial to monitor symptoms closely. Based on your description, it seems that you hit the back of your head and subsequently experienced severe stomach pain, dizziness, nausea, and persistent headaches. These symptoms warrant careful consideration, as they may indicate a more serious underlying issue.

When to Seek Medical Attention
1. Persistent Symptoms: If you continue to experience dizziness, headaches, or nausea after four days, it is advisable to seek medical attention. Symptoms that persist or worsen can indicate complications such as a concussion, intracranial hemorrhage, or other forms of traumatic brain injury.

2. Neurological Symptoms: Look out for any new neurological symptoms, such as confusion, difficulty speaking, weakness in limbs, or changes in vision. These symptoms can indicate a more severe injury and require immediate medical evaluation.

3. Gastrointestinal Symptoms: The severe stomach pain you experienced could be related to the head injury, especially if it is accompanied by nausea and vomiting. While it may seem unrelated, head injuries can sometimes lead to gastrointestinal distress due to increased intracranial pressure or other factors.

4. Changes in Consciousness: If you experience any changes in consciousness, such as feeling unusually drowsy, having difficulty waking up, or experiencing a loss of consciousness, you should seek emergency medical care immediately.

Recommendations for Medical Evaluation
- Imaging Studies: Given your symptoms, a CT scan or MRI of the brain may be necessary to rule out any bleeding or structural damage. These imaging studies can help identify any potential complications from the head injury.

- Neurological Examination: A thorough neurological examination by a healthcare professional can help assess your cognitive function, reflexes, and overall neurological status.

- Gastroenterological Assessment: Since you are experiencing significant stomach pain, it may also be beneficial to consult with a gastroenterologist to rule out any gastrointestinal issues that may be contributing to your symptoms.

Recovery and Monitoring
- Rest and Observation: It is essential to rest and avoid activities that could risk further injury, such as sports or heavy lifting. Monitor your symptoms closely, and keep a record of any changes.

- Hydration and Nutrition: Ensure you stay hydrated and try to maintain a balanced diet, even if your appetite is poor. Dehydration can exacerbate headaches and dizziness.

- Pain Management: If you are prescribed pain medication, follow your doctor’s instructions carefully. Over-the-counter pain relievers may also help, but consult with a healthcare provider before taking any new medications.

Conclusion
In summary, while some symptoms may resolve on their own, the combination of persistent headaches, dizziness, and gastrointestinal distress following a head injury should not be ignored. It is crucial to seek medical attention to ensure that there are no serious complications. Early intervention can lead to better outcomes and a more straightforward recovery process. Always prioritize your health and safety, and do not hesitate to reach out for professional medical advice when in doubt.
