Can you get pregnant from ejaculation outside without using a condom?

My girlfriend's last menstrual period started around March 21.
Her cycles are irregular.
We had unprotected intercourse on April 3 and 4, with ejaculation outside twice.
I would like to know if this could lead to pregnancy.
Does having irregular cycles mean she is less likely to conceive? I plan for her to take preconception pills when her next period comes to help regulate her cycles.
Is this appropriate?

Thank you, 10~19 year old female. Ask Date: 2016/04/09

Hello, if you are wondering about pregnancy, it is best to take preventive measures beforehand.
If your period is more than a week late, it is advisable to see a gynecologist.
When her next period arrives, giving her preemptive contraceptive pills can also help regulate her cycle, which is a good approach.
Wishing you good health.

When it comes to the possibility of pregnancy from unprotected intercourse, especially in the context of irregular menstrual cycles, there are several important factors to consider.
Firstly, it is essential to understand that pregnancy can occur if sperm comes into contact with the vaginal canal, regardless of whether the male partner ejaculates inside the female partner or not. Pre-ejaculate fluid can contain sperm, and thus, even if you believe that you did not ejaculate inside, there is still a risk of pregnancy. Given that your girlfriend's last menstrual period was on March 21, and you had unprotected intercourse on April 3 and 4, it is possible for her to become pregnant, especially if she ovulated around that time.

Irregular menstrual cycles can complicate the understanding of ovulation and fertility. Typically, ovulation occurs about 14 days before the start of the next menstrual period. However, in women with irregular cycles, predicting ovulation can be challenging. Irregular periods do not necessarily mean that a woman is less fertile; it simply means that the timing of ovulation is unpredictable. Therefore, even if her cycles are irregular, there is still a chance of pregnancy if intercourse occurs around the time of ovulation.

Regarding your plan to have her take emergency contraception (often referred to as the "morning-after pill") after the unprotected intercourse, it is important to note that this method is most effective when taken as soon as possible after unprotected sex, ideally within 72 hours. If she is already past that window, the effectiveness decreases significantly.
Additionally, you mentioned the idea of starting a regular contraceptive pill to help regulate her menstrual cycle. This can be a good approach, as hormonal contraceptives can help stabilize menstrual cycles and provide effective contraception. However, it's crucial for her to consult with a healthcare provider before starting any medication. A healthcare provider can assess her health history, discuss the best options for contraception, and help her understand how to use it effectively.

In summary, there is a possibility of pregnancy from the unprotected intercourse you described, especially given the unpredictability of her menstrual cycle. If she has concerns about a potential pregnancy, it would be wise for her to take a pregnancy test if her period is late. Additionally, consulting with a healthcare provider about contraception and menstrual regulation is a prudent step to take moving forward.
