There is an unusual growth in the throat?

On February 10th of this year, I performed unprotected oral sex on a stranger who was quite rough.
There was no ejaculation in my mouth.
The next day, February 11th, I developed a fever and had tonsillitis, which took about two weeks to resolve.
After recovering, I noticed a post-nasal drip and a red circular lesion in my throat, but I'm not sure when it appeared.
I don't know if it has always been there or if it developed after the incident.
If it is new, it has been present for over a month, and it appears unchanged in size or quantity.
I can't tell if it is swollen or if something else has grown in my throat.
As of April 12th, I occasionally feel a sensation of something stuck in my throat and have a persistent cough.
It seems I also have gastroesophageal reflux and post-nasal drip (the mucus is visible above the red circle).
Additionally, I feel like I have increased saliva production.
Given the unprotected sexual encounter, I am concerned whether this lesion could be a sexually transmitted infection or just typical throat symptoms.

Hello: Currently, the lymphoid tissue at the back of the throat appears mostly normal.
It may become slightly swollen during inflammation, and initially, it does not resemble a tumor.
However, if the pain persists, a medical examination is necessary.
Wishing you safety and health.
Sincerely, Dr.
Jue-Yi Cheng, Director of the Department of Otolaryngology, Taoyuan General Hospital, Ministry of Health and Welfare.

It sounds like you're experiencing a concerning throat issue following an incident of unprotected oral sex, which has led to various symptoms including a sore throat, fever, and the appearance of a growth in your throat. Let's break down the potential causes and what you should consider moving forward.

First, the symptoms you described, such as a sore throat and fever, suggest that you may have had an acute infection, possibly viral or bacterial in nature. The inflammation of the tonsils (tonsillitis) you experienced could have been due to a common viral infection, such as the flu or a cold, or a bacterial infection like streptococcal pharyngitis. These infections can lead to swelling and discomfort in the throat, and sometimes result in the formation of pus-filled spots or other growths.

The growth you noticed in your throat, particularly if it has a red circle around it, could be a number of things. It might be a benign condition such as a mucous retention cyst, a small polyp, or even a reactive lymphoid tissue due to ongoing irritation or infection. However, given your history of unprotected oral sex, it is also important to consider sexually transmitted infections (STIs) that can affect the throat, such as gonorrhea or herpes simplex virus. These infections can sometimes present with lesions or unusual growths in the throat.

The symptoms of post-nasal drip and gastroesophageal reflux (GERD) that you mentioned can also contribute to throat irritation. Post-nasal drip occurs when excess mucus accumulates in the back of the throat, often leading to a sensation of needing to clear the throat frequently. GERD can cause acid to flow back into the esophagus, leading to irritation and inflammation of the throat.

Given that the growth has been present for over a month without significant changes, it is crucial to have it evaluated by a healthcare professional. A thorough examination by an ENT (ear, nose, and throat) specialist is recommended. They may perform a laryngoscopy to visualize the throat and determine the nature of the growth. Additionally, they may recommend tests for STIs, especially considering your recent sexual encounter.

In summary, while your symptoms could be related to a common throat infection or irritation, the presence of a growth warrants further investigation to rule out any serious conditions, including STIs. It is essential to seek medical attention promptly to receive an accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment. Remember, early intervention can often lead to better outcomes, so don’t hesitate to reach out to a healthcare provider.
