Bleeding during sexual intercourse?

I was having sexual intercourse with my boyfriend when I suddenly started bleeding.
However, I didn't experience any abdominal pain, and that day was supposed to be the first day of my period, so I thought the blood was my menstrual flow.
But the next day, the bleeding stopped.
Today should be the second day of my period, but it still hasn't arrived.
Additionally, there was no sexual activity between this month and last month, so pregnancy can be ruled out.
Could it be that the bleeding was caused by vigorous activity that might have impacted my cervix? I'm really worried...

Cc, 20~29 year old female. Ask Date: 2016/04/12

Bleeding may be due to menstruation or cervical bleeding.
It is advisable to monitor for a week, and if the bleeding is abnormal, it is recommended to seek medical evaluation.

Unexpected bleeding during intercourse can be concerning, and it's understandable that you are worried about the potential causes. Given your description, there are several factors to consider regarding the unexpected bleeding you experienced.

Firstly, it is important to note that bleeding during or after intercourse can occur for a variety of reasons. One common cause is cervical irritation, which can happen if there is vigorous sexual activity that may cause trauma to the cervix. The cervix is the lower part of the uterus that opens into the vagina, and it can be sensitive, especially if there are any underlying conditions such as cervical ectropion (where cells from the inside of the cervical canal are present on the outside of the cervix) or infections. If the bleeding was light and stopped quickly, it might simply be due to this type of irritation.

Another possibility is that the bleeding could be related to hormonal fluctuations in your menstrual cycle. Since you mentioned that the bleeding occurred on what you believed to be the first day of your period, it is possible that it was indeed the onset of menstruation, albeit a bit atypical. Sometimes, menstrual bleeding can start and stop unexpectedly, leading to confusion about the timing and nature of your cycle.

If you have recently experienced changes in your menstrual cycle, such as irregular periods or unexpected bleeding, it could also indicate an underlying hormonal imbalance. Conditions such as polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), which you mentioned you have, can lead to irregular cycles and unexpected bleeding. Stress, significant weight changes, and other lifestyle factors can also contribute to hormonal fluctuations that affect your menstrual cycle.

In your case, since you have not had sexual intercourse in the previous month, the likelihood of pregnancy is indeed low, especially if you are using contraception or have been consistent with your birth control methods. However, if there is any doubt or if you experience further symptoms such as severe pain, heavy bleeding, or unusual discharge, it would be wise to consult a healthcare provider for a thorough evaluation.

It is also worth mentioning that if you have any concerns about sexually transmitted infections (STIs), these can also cause bleeding and should be ruled out through appropriate testing. Regular gynecological check-ups are important for maintaining reproductive health and addressing any concerns you may have.

In conclusion, while unexpected bleeding during intercourse can be alarming, it is often due to benign causes such as cervical irritation or hormonal changes. However, if the bleeding persists, worsens, or is accompanied by other concerning symptoms, seeking medical advice is essential to ensure that there are no underlying health issues that need to be addressed. Remember, your health and peace of mind are important, and it is always better to err on the side of caution when it comes to your reproductive health.
