Pain during bowel movements?
Recently, I had gastroenteritis with diarrhea, but there was no pain in the anus.
A week later, my first bowel movement was a bit hard, but the subsequent ones were soft.
I noticed blood when wiping.
The next day, even though my stool was soft, I still experienced pain in the anus and noticed blood.
Sometimes it drips out, and at times there is blood in the stool.
Each time I have a bowel movement, there is pain in the anus, and it continues to hurt afterward.
Am I experiencing anal fissures or hemorrhoids? I have a problem with constipation, sometimes going up to three days without a bowel movement, but usually, I go once every one to two days, and the stool is not too hard.

Anal pain accompanied by blood in the stool can be concerning and may indicate several underlying conditions. Based on your description, it sounds like you may be experiencing either anal fissures or hemorrhoids, both of which are common causes of anal pain and rectal bleeding.
Anal Fissures: These are small tears in the lining of the anus, often caused by passing hard or large stools. Symptoms typically include sharp pain during and after bowel movements, and you may notice bright red blood on the toilet paper or in the stool. The pain can be quite severe and may lead to a cycle of constipation, as individuals may avoid bowel movements due to the pain, leading to harder stools that exacerbate the fissure.
Hemorrhoids: These are swollen veins in the lower rectum or anus that can cause pain, discomfort, and bleeding. Hemorrhoids can be internal (inside the rectum) or external (under the skin around the anus). Symptoms may include itching, discomfort, and bright red blood during bowel movements. Hemorrhoids can be caused by straining during bowel movements, prolonged sitting, or increased pressure during pregnancy.
Given your history of gastrointestinal issues and constipation, it is possible that either condition could be contributing to your symptoms. The fact that you experienced diarrhea followed by hard stools could have led to irritation and subsequent pain and bleeding.
Recommendations:
1. Dietary Changes: Increasing your fiber intake can help soften your stools and make bowel movements easier. Foods rich in fiber include fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and legumes. Additionally, staying well-hydrated is crucial.
2. Over-the-Counter Treatments: You may consider using topical treatments such as hydrocortisone creams or witch hazel for hemorrhoids, or barrier creams to protect the area. For fissures, topical anesthetics can help alleviate pain.
3. Warm Sitz Baths: Soaking in warm water for 10-15 minutes several times a day can help soothe anal pain and promote healing.
4. Avoid Straining: Try to avoid straining during bowel movements. If you feel the urge to go, don’t delay it, as this can lead to harder stools.
5. Consult a Healthcare Provider: Since you are experiencing persistent pain and bleeding, it is essential to consult a healthcare provider for a thorough evaluation. They may perform a physical examination and possibly recommend further tests, such as a colonoscopy, to rule out other conditions like inflammatory bowel disease or colorectal cancer, especially if the bleeding continues or worsens.
6. Follow-Up: If you are diagnosed with either condition, follow your healthcare provider's recommendations for treatment and management. If symptoms do not improve with conservative measures, further interventions may be necessary.
In summary, while anal fissures and hemorrhoids are common causes of your symptoms, it is essential to seek medical advice to ensure an accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment. Early intervention can help prevent complications and improve your quality of life.
