Menstrual period is delayed, and there has been bleeding for over a week?
I have always had regular menstrual cycles and my health has been generally good, but starting last week, I noticed a small amount of blood before my expected period.
It only appears when I wipe with toilet paper in the morning after getting up, and then it stops.
The color is not very bright red, but it is red, and sometimes it appears lighter.
This has been ongoing for about 7 to 8 days.
What could be the reason for this?

Hello, the factors that can affect the menstrual cycle or cause intermenstrual bleeding are numerous, including environment, lifestyle, stress, emotional instability, diet, age, lesions of the uterus or cervix, and pregnancy, among others.
Additionally, the effects of emergency contraception on menstruation can vary; it may not necessarily cause a period to come early or late, and its contraceptive effectiveness is not 100%.
It is advisable to consult a gynecologist to determine whether there is a hormonal imbalance or early pregnancy.
Thank you! Wishing you peace and health.

Experiencing unexplained light bleeding before your expected menstrual period can be concerning, especially if your menstrual cycle has been regular and your overall health is good. This phenomenon, often referred to as "spotting," can occur for various reasons, and understanding the potential causes is crucial for determining whether further evaluation is needed.
One common cause of premenstrual spotting is hormonal fluctuations. The menstrual cycle is regulated by a complex interplay of hormones, including estrogen and progesterone. If there is an imbalance in these hormones, it can lead to unexpected bleeding. This may happen due to stress, changes in weight, or even changes in physical activity levels. For instance, significant weight loss or gain can affect hormone levels, leading to irregular bleeding patterns.
Another potential cause is ovulation. Some women experience light spotting during ovulation, which typically occurs about two weeks before the start of their period. This is known as ovulation bleeding and is usually light pink or brown in color. If your spotting coincides with your ovulation period, this could be a benign explanation.
Pregnancy is another possibility, even if you are not actively trying to conceive. Implantation bleeding can occur when a fertilized egg attaches to the lining of the uterus, which may happen around the time you expect your period. This type of bleeding is usually light and short-lived. If you suspect pregnancy, taking a home pregnancy test can provide clarity.
Other causes of light bleeding can include cervical or uterine issues, such as polyps or fibroids, which can cause irregular bleeding. Additionally, sexually transmitted infections (STIs) or other infections can lead to spotting, especially if accompanied by other symptoms like unusual discharge or discomfort.
If the bleeding persists beyond your expected period or is accompanied by other symptoms such as pain, unusual discharge, or significant changes in your menstrual cycle, it is essential to consult a healthcare provider. They may recommend a pelvic exam, ultrasound, or blood tests to determine the underlying cause of the bleeding.
In summary, while light bleeding before your period can be a normal occurrence due to hormonal fluctuations or ovulation, it is essential to monitor the situation. If the bleeding continues for more than a week or is accompanied by concerning symptoms, seeking medical advice is the best course of action. Your healthcare provider can help identify the cause and recommend appropriate treatment or management strategies.
