Inquiry about taking RU486?

On May 4th, I took the second dose of RU486.
I experienced heavy bleeding on the first day, but very little bleeding on the second day.
Does this mean that the process might not be complete?

More Info

RU486, also known as mifepristone, is a medication commonly used in combination with misoprostol for medical abortion. It works by blocking the hormone progesterone, which is necessary for the continuation of pregnancy. After taking RU486, it is normal to experience a range of symptoms, including bleeding and cramping, as the body expels the pregnancy tissue.

Regarding your question about the bleeding pattern after taking the second dose of RU486, it is important to understand that variations in bleeding are quite common. After the administration of RU486, many women experience heavy bleeding initially, which can be similar to a menstrual period or even heavier. This heavy bleeding is often followed by lighter bleeding or spotting, which can occur for several days or even weeks.
In your case, experiencing heavy bleeding on the first day after taking the second dose, followed by significantly lighter bleeding the next day, is generally considered normal. The body’s response to the medication can vary widely among individuals, and fluctuations in bleeding intensity are not uncommon. The initial heavy bleeding is usually indicative of the body beginning the process of expelling the pregnancy, while lighter bleeding can signify that the process is progressing as expected.

It is also important to note that while some women may experience a complete expulsion of the pregnancy tissue quickly, others may take longer, and some may require follow-up care to ensure that the abortion is complete. If there are concerns about whether the bleeding is "clean" or if there is a risk of retained tissue, it is advisable to follow up with a healthcare provider. They may recommend an ultrasound or a follow-up appointment to confirm that the abortion was complete and that there are no complications.

In summary, the changes in bleeding you are experiencing after taking RU486 are generally normal. However, if you have any concerns about the amount of bleeding, the presence of severe pain, or any other unusual symptoms, it is crucial to consult with your healthcare provider. They can provide personalized guidance and ensure that you are recovering appropriately. Always prioritize follow-up appointments as directed by your healthcare provider to monitor your health and well-being during this process.
