Alcohol disinfection for pregnant women?
Hello, I am currently 19 weeks pregnant.
I would like to know if occasionally using 75% alcohol to disinfect my skin will affect the fetus.
Another question is, I heard that pregnant women should not use beauty devices for infusion because the electrical currents may affect the fetus.
If I use a facial cleansing device to wash my face, will it have any impact on the fetus?

More Info
When it comes to the safety of using alcohol for disinfection during pregnancy, the general consensus among medical professionals is that it is considered safe to use topical alcohol (such as 70% isopropyl alcohol) for skin disinfection. This is primarily because the alcohol is applied externally and does not penetrate deeply into the skin or enter the bloodstream in significant amounts. Therefore, occasional use of alcohol for disinfecting the skin should not pose a risk to the developing fetus.
However, it is essential to use alcohol in a well-ventilated area to avoid inhaling fumes, which could potentially cause dizziness or nausea. Pregnant women are often more sensitive to strong odors, and inhaling alcohol vapors in large quantities may lead to discomfort. Additionally, it is advisable to avoid using alcohol on large areas of the skin or on broken skin, as this could increase the risk of absorption and irritation.
Regarding the use of beauty devices, such as facial cleansing machines or devices that utilize electrical currents, the safety of these devices during pregnancy can vary. Most beauty devices that are designed for home use, including facial cleansing brushes, are generally considered safe for pregnant women. These devices typically do not emit strong electrical currents that could affect the fetus. However, it is always wise to consult with your healthcare provider before using any new beauty products or devices during pregnancy.
On the other hand, devices that involve more invasive procedures or those that utilize high-frequency currents or laser treatments should be approached with caution. These types of treatments may not be recommended during pregnancy due to the potential risks associated with the effects of electrical currents on the developing fetus.
In summary, using 70% alcohol for skin disinfection is generally safe during pregnancy when used appropriately. However, it is crucial to ensure proper ventilation and avoid excessive use. As for beauty devices, while most are safe, it is best to consult with your healthcare provider regarding specific devices or treatments you may be considering. Always prioritize your health and the health of your baby by seeking professional advice when in doubt.
