How Long for Double Eyelid Surgery with Muscle Lift to Show Results? - Ophthalmology

Hello, I would like to ask how long it takes for the effects of double eyelid surgery combined with eyelid muscle lifting to become apparent? If the surgery fails, how long should one wait before undergoing another procedure?

Hello, I would like to ask how long it should take for the effects of double eyelid surgery combined with eyelid muscle lifting to become apparent.
Is it normal for this to happen after the swelling subsides post-surgery? I had the surgery done at another clinic nearly a month ago.
Before the surgery, my right eye had a habitual eyebrow lift, but there has been no immediate effect post-surgery.
After a month, my right eye still appears noticeably droopy.
On the day of the surgery, the tension in the eyelids was uneven (the tight feeling made it hard to close my eyes completely); the left eye, which felt tighter, does not droop, while the right eye, which feels less tight, is very droopy.
Is this normal? Does tighter suturing of the eyelid muscle result in better lifting? I followed up with the doctor post-surgery, and he keeps saying that it will take three months to determine the outcome and has advised me to practice looking upward.
I have been diligently practicing, but the right eye still droops enough to cover one-third of the eyeball.
Can I undergo another surgery immediately after the first one to improve this, or how long should I wait to assess the situation? Is it possible to have another surgery to improve the right eye?

After undergoing double eyelid surgery combined with a muscle lift, it is common to have questions about the timeline for seeing results and the healing process. Generally, the initial results of the surgery may not be immediately apparent due to swelling and bruising, which can obscure the final appearance of the eyelids. Typically, the most significant swelling occurs in the first few days post-surgery, and as the swelling subsides, the results become clearer. This process can take several weeks, and most patients begin to see a more defined shape and symmetry in their eyelids around the two to four-week mark. However, full healing and stabilization of the eyelid shape can take up to three months or longer.

In your case, it sounds like you are experiencing significant asymmetry and drooping in the right eyelid, which can be concerning. It is not uncommon for one eye to heal differently than the other, especially if there was a pre-existing condition, such as habitual eyebrow raising, which may have affected the muscle tone and positioning of the eyelids. The tightness or tension you feel in one eyelid compared to the other can be attributed to the surgical technique used and how the muscles were manipulated during the procedure.
Your surgeon's recommendation to wait three months before making any definitive judgments about the results is standard practice. This waiting period allows for the majority of swelling to resolve and for the tissues to settle into their new positions. During this time, it is essential to follow any post-operative care instructions provided by your surgeon, including exercises to help strengthen the eyelid muscles and improve their function.

If, after the three-month period, you still find that the right eyelid is significantly drooping and not responding to the exercises, it may be worth discussing the possibility of a revision surgery with your surgeon. However, it is crucial to allow adequate time for healing before considering any additional procedures. Revising the surgery too soon could lead to further complications or an unsatisfactory outcome.

As for your question about whether the sutures were placed too tightly, this can indeed affect how well the eyelids function post-surgery. If the eyelid muscles are too tight, it can lead to difficulty in closing the eyes or an unnatural appearance. Conversely, if they are too loose, it can result in drooping. Your surgeon should be able to assess the situation and determine if any adjustments are necessary.

In summary, while it is understandable to be anxious about the results of your surgery, patience is key. Allow your body time to heal, and keep an open line of communication with your surgeon. If you have ongoing concerns or if the asymmetry does not improve, seeking a second opinion from another qualified ophthalmic or plastic surgeon may provide you with additional insights and options for your situation.
