Strange cold

Last Wednesday, I contracted an infection during a teacher appreciation banquet.
My symptoms include persistent post-nasal drip and coughing.
I first visited a doctor who prescribed Acetaminophen 500 mg, Dextromethorphan 30 mg, Donison 5 mg, Norsecon, Augmentin 625 mg, and Amoxicillin 500 mg.
After completing the course, my condition improved only slightly (on the fourth day).
I then went to another clinic where I was prescribed Bidac, Voren-K (50 mg), Xusen, OXO Capsules "YUNG S," Pseudoephedrine, and AXOL Sustained Release.
The key issue is that starting on the fourth day, I began to experience mild dizziness.
Why is this happening? Currently, my symptoms include dizziness, slight neck pain (around the Fengchi and temples), thick nasal discharge, persistent post-nasal drip, and phlegm.
Is this normal?

It sounds like you're experiencing a series of troubling symptoms following a recent illness, and it's understandable to be concerned about your health. Based on your description, it seems you have been dealing with a respiratory infection, possibly a viral upper respiratory infection, which can often lead to symptoms such as nasal congestion, post-nasal drip, cough, and even headaches or dizziness.

When you mention that you have been experiencing a runny nose, cough, and now lightheadedness and neck discomfort, it raises a few considerations. The medications you were prescribed, including acetaminophen and antibiotics like amoxicillin, suggest that your doctor was addressing both pain and potential bacterial infection. However, if your symptoms have persisted or worsened, it may indicate that the initial treatment was not fully effective, or that you may be dealing with a secondary infection or complication.

Headaches and dizziness can occur for several reasons in the context of a respiratory infection. They may be due to sinus pressure, dehydration, or even side effects from the medications you are taking. For instance, pseudoephedrine, a common decongestant, can sometimes cause side effects like dizziness or increased heart rate. Additionally, if you are experiencing significant nasal congestion, this can lead to sinus pressure, which may also contribute to headaches and a feeling of lightheadedness.

The neck pain you mentioned, particularly around the areas of the "wind pool" (风池穴) and the temples, could be related to muscle tension or strain, especially if you have been coughing a lot or sleeping in an uncomfortable position due to your symptoms. However, if the neck pain is severe or accompanied by other concerning symptoms such as fever, severe headache, or neurological signs (like weakness or changes in vision), it would be prudent to seek medical attention promptly.

In terms of whether your current symptoms are "normal," it is essential to consider the context of your overall health and the duration of your symptoms. While mild symptoms can be expected with viral infections, if you find that your symptoms are not improving after several days, or if they are worsening, it is advisable to follow up with a healthcare provider. They may want to reassess your condition, possibly perform additional tests, or adjust your treatment plan.

In summary, while some of your symptoms may be typical of a viral upper respiratory infection, the persistence and combination of symptoms warrant further evaluation. If you continue to feel unwell, especially with new or worsening symptoms, do not hesitate to seek medical advice. It is always better to err on the side of caution when it comes to your health.
