Additionally, the vitreous may exert traction on the surrounding areas, resulting in retinal tears.
Generally, the incidence of retinal detachment in eyes with lattice degeneration is about 1%; however, in cases of high myopia combined with lattice degeneration, the risk of retinal detachment increases to as high as 30%.
