Genital issues
Since the day before yesterday, I've been experiencing itching on the inner labia and near the vaginal opening.
The itchy areas feel slightly bumpy, but they are not very noticeable and are the normal flesh color.
The clitoris also itches, and sometimes when I urinate, I feel a slight stinging sensation in the clitoris.
Is this due to heat and humidity, or is there something else going on? What should I do?

Hello, based on your symptom description, it is more likely that you are experiencing contact dermatitis or vaginitis.
It is recommended to maintain a light diet, have a regular daily routine, and keep the perineal area clean and dry.
Avoid wearing tight clothing.
Taking a sitz bath may help alleviate symptoms.
If symptoms persist, please consult a physician for diagnosis and treatment.
Thank you! Wishing you peace and health, Dr.
Chang.

More Info
Vulvar itching can be a distressing symptom for many women, and understanding its potential causes is crucial for finding effective relief. The symptoms you describe, including itching in the labia and around the vaginal opening, along with the presence of small bumps and occasional stinging during urination, can be attributed to several factors.
Common Causes of Vulvar Itching
1. Infections: One of the most common causes of vulvar itching is a yeast infection, which can lead to symptoms such as itching, irritation, and discharge. Bacterial vaginosis and sexually transmitted infections (STIs) like herpes or trichomoniasis can also cause similar symptoms.
2. Skin Conditions: Conditions such as eczema, psoriasis, or lichen sclerosus can affect the vulvar area, leading to itching and discomfort. These conditions may cause changes in the skin's appearance, including redness, scaling, or bumps.
3. Irritants: Certain soaps, detergents, or personal hygiene products can irritate the vulvar area, leading to itching. Additionally, tight clothing or synthetic fabrics can create a warm, moist environment that exacerbates irritation.
4. Hormonal Changes: Fluctuations in hormone levels, particularly during menopause, can lead to vulvar dryness and itching. This is often accompanied by other symptoms such as vaginal dryness and discomfort during intercourse.
5. Allergic Reactions: Allergies to products such as latex condoms, spermicides, or feminine hygiene products can also cause vulvar itching.
Recommended Solutions
1. Maintain Hygiene: Gently wash the vulvar area with mild, unscented soap and water. Avoid douching or using scented products, as these can disrupt the natural balance of bacteria and lead to irritation.
2. Wear Breathable Fabrics: Opt for cotton underwear and loose-fitting clothing to allow for better air circulation and reduce moisture buildup.
3. Avoid Irritants: Identify and eliminate any potential irritants from your personal care routine. This includes avoiding harsh soaps, scented products, and fabric softeners.
4. Over-the-Counter Treatments: If you suspect a yeast infection, over-the-counter antifungal creams or suppositories may provide relief. However, if you suspect a bacterial infection or STI, it is important to consult a healthcare provider for appropriate treatment.
5. Consult a Healthcare Provider: If symptoms persist or worsen, it is essential to seek medical advice. A healthcare provider can perform a thorough examination, possibly including a pelvic exam, and may recommend tests to determine the underlying cause of the itching.
6. Topical Treatments: Depending on the diagnosis, topical corticosteroids may be prescribed to reduce inflammation and itching associated with skin conditions.
7. Hydration and Moisturizers: For those experiencing dryness, using a water-based lubricant or vaginal moisturizer can help alleviate discomfort.
When to Seek Immediate Care
If you experience severe pain, unusual discharge, or if the itching is accompanied by swelling or lesions, it is important to seek medical attention promptly. These could be signs of a more serious condition that requires immediate treatment.
In summary, vulvar itching can arise from a variety of causes, ranging from infections to irritants and skin conditions. By maintaining good hygiene, avoiding irritants, and consulting with a healthcare provider, you can effectively manage and alleviate discomfort. Remember, it’s always best to err on the side of caution and seek professional advice if you are unsure about your symptoms.
