Stomach pain, lower abdominal pain?
Hello, Doctor! Previously, I would have a bowel movement every morning, and the stool was relatively normal.
However, recently I suddenly experienced constipation, and when I did go, it was loose.
Until yesterday, after eating matcha outside, I suddenly had severe diarrhea when I got home, going to the bathroom three to four times, and then it gradually became difficult to pass anything.
This morning, I only managed to pass a small amount, and after that, I felt a lingering sensation of incomplete evacuation.
Following that, I developed a dull pain in my lower abdomen that has persisted.
Additionally, I've been experiencing intermittent pain in the right side of my abdomen.
This is what I've been experiencing lately, and I'm quite worried, so I wanted to ask for your advice.
Thank you, Doctor!

Hello: It may be due to enteritis or gastritis.
It is recommended to reduce the intake of dairy products and foods containing tea leaves, as well as high-fat, high-protein, and spicy foods.
If the condition does not improve, it is advisable to consult a gastroenterologist.

Abdominal pain, particularly when accompanied by changes in bowel habits such as constipation and diarrhea, can be indicative of several underlying issues. Your recent experience of alternating between constipation and diarrhea, along with the sensation of incomplete evacuation and localized abdominal pain, warrants a closer examination.
Firstly, the sudden onset of constipation followed by diarrhea can suggest a few potential causes. One common reason for these symptoms is a condition known as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), which is characterized by a combination of abdominal pain and altered bowel habits. IBS can be triggered by various factors, including dietary changes, stress, and gastrointestinal infections. In your case, the consumption of matcha could have been a dietary trigger, especially if it was accompanied by other foods that your body may not tolerate well.
Another possibility is that you may be experiencing a gastrointestinal infection, which can lead to symptoms such as diarrhea, abdominal pain, and changes in bowel habits. This could be due to foodborne pathogens, especially if you consumed food from an outside source. Symptoms of an infection can vary widely, and while some infections resolve on their own, others may require medical intervention.
Constipation can also lead to a condition known as fecal impaction, where hard stool accumulates in the colon and can cause abdominal pain and discomfort. This can sometimes lead to overflow diarrhea, where liquid stool leaks around the impacted stool, resulting in the appearance of diarrhea. The sensation of incomplete evacuation you described could be a sign of this condition.
In addition to these gastrointestinal issues, anxiety and stress can significantly impact bowel function. As you mentioned being concerned about your symptoms, it is important to recognize that anxiety can exacerbate gastrointestinal symptoms, leading to a cycle of discomfort. Stress management techniques, such as mindfulness, yoga, or cognitive behavioral therapy, can be beneficial in alleviating some of the symptoms associated with anxiety and gastrointestinal distress.
Given your symptoms, it is advisable to consult with a healthcare provider for a thorough evaluation. They may recommend diagnostic tests, such as blood tests, stool tests, or imaging studies, to rule out any serious underlying conditions. Additionally, they may suggest dietary modifications, increased fluid intake, and possibly medications to help regulate your bowel movements and alleviate pain.
In summary, your symptoms of abdominal pain, constipation, and diarrhea could stem from a variety of causes, including IBS, gastrointestinal infections, or fecal impaction. It is essential to seek medical advice to determine the underlying cause and receive appropriate treatment. Managing stress and anxiety may also play a crucial role in improving your overall gastrointestinal health. Remember, early intervention can lead to better outcomes, so do not hesitate to reach out to a healthcare professional for guidance.
