Painful Swelling Above the Right Testicle: Causes and Concerns - Urology

Above the right testicle?

Hello doctor, two days ago I noticed a noticeable lump above my right testicle, about slightly larger than a grain of rice.
Pressing on it causes pain that radiates to my lower abdomen.
Recently, I have been masturbating, and both testicles are of even size, but the left side does not have that lump.
I previously had epididymitis on the left side.
What could this symptom indicate? Thank you for your response.

If you have concerns, it is advisable to see a urologist for an examination, which should include a urinalysis and a scrotal ultrasound.

It sounds like you are experiencing a concerning symptom with the swelling above your right testicle. Based on your description, there are several potential causes for this swelling, and it is important to approach this situation with care and attention.

One possible cause of the swelling could be a condition known as a hydrocele, which is a fluid-filled sac surrounding a testicle that can cause swelling. Hydroceles are generally painless, but they can sometimes cause discomfort if they become large. Another possibility is epididymitis, which is an inflammation of the epididymis, the tube that carries sperm from the testicle. This condition can be caused by infections, including sexually transmitted infections, and is often accompanied by pain and swelling.

Additionally, you mentioned that you have previously experienced inflammation of the epididymis on the left side. This history could suggest a predisposition to similar issues on the right side. Testicular torsion is another serious condition that can cause sudden swelling and pain, but it typically presents with more acute symptoms and requires immediate medical attention.

Given that you are experiencing pain that extends to your lower abdomen, it is crucial to seek medical evaluation as soon as possible. A healthcare professional will likely perform a physical examination and may recommend an ultrasound to assess the swelling and determine its cause. Early diagnosis and treatment are essential, especially if the condition is related to an infection or torsion, as these can lead to complications if left untreated.

In the meantime, here are some general recommendations:
1. Avoid Strenuous Activity: Until you have been evaluated by a doctor, it is advisable to avoid heavy lifting or strenuous exercise that could exacerbate the swelling or pain.

2. Pain Management: Over-the-counter pain relievers such as ibuprofen or acetaminophen may help alleviate discomfort, but be sure to follow the recommended dosages.

3. Monitor Symptoms: Keep track of any changes in the swelling, pain intensity, or any new symptoms such as fever, nausea, or changes in urination. This information will be helpful for your healthcare provider.

4. Seek Medical Attention: Do not hesitate to visit a healthcare provider or an urgent care facility, especially if the pain worsens or if you develop additional symptoms.

In conclusion, while there are several potential causes for the swelling above your right testicle, it is essential to have a thorough evaluation to determine the exact cause and appropriate treatment. Your health and well-being are paramount, so please prioritize seeking medical attention.
