Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) treatment for prostatitis?
Hello, I previously experienced prostatitis and did not see any improvement with Western medicine.
After switching to Traditional Chinese Medicine, my symptoms, which included lower abdominal pain, bladder pain, testicular pain, pain during ejaculation, nocturnal emissions, erectile dysfunction, premature ejaculation, burning sensation during urination, frequent urination, and yellowish semen with a jelly-like consistency, have improved over the past six months.
Currently, I am left with erectile dysfunction, premature ejaculation, quick loss of erection, yellowish semen with a jelly-like consistency, very few morning erections, and weak erections.
I am concerned about whether this is a normal recovery process since it has been a long time.
I will be studying near Wenshan in New Taipei City.
Could you recommend a place for treatment? Thank you for your response, doctor.

Prostatitis, particularly chronic prostatitis, can be a challenging condition to manage, and many patients find themselves exploring various treatment options, including Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). Your journey from Western medicine to TCM reflects a common path for those who feel unsatisfied with conventional treatments.
Chronic prostatitis can manifest with a range of symptoms, including pelvic pain, urinary difficulties, and sexual dysfunction. The symptoms you described—such as lower abdominal pain, bladder discomfort, testicular pain, painful ejaculation, and changes in semen—are indeed consistent with prostatitis. It’s important to note that while TCM can offer relief and promote healing, the timeline for recovery can vary significantly from person to person.
In TCM, the approach to treating prostatitis often involves a holistic view of the body, focusing on restoring balance and addressing underlying imbalances that may contribute to inflammation. Common TCM strategies include herbal medicine, acupuncture, dietary adjustments, and lifestyle changes. The herbs you mentioned, such as Ba Zheng San and other formulas, are often used to clear heat and dampness, which are thought to contribute to inflammation in the prostate.
Your current symptoms of erectile dysfunction and premature ejaculation, along with the changes in your semen, suggest that while some progress has been made, there may still be underlying issues that need to be addressed. The fact that you have seen some improvement in your symptoms is a positive sign, but it’s understandable to feel concerned about the duration of your treatment and the remaining symptoms.
Regarding your question about whether this is a normal recovery process, it is essential to recognize that chronic conditions can take time to heal. In TCM, the focus is often on gradual improvement rather than immediate results. It’s also important to maintain open communication with your TCM practitioner about your symptoms and any concerns you have. They may adjust your treatment plan based on your progress.
As for your upcoming move to the Wenshan District in New Taipei City, you may want to seek out local TCM practitioners who specialize in urology or men's health. Look for clinics that have good reviews and practitioners with experience in treating prostatitis. You might also consider asking for recommendations from local health forums or community groups.
In addition to TCM, it may be beneficial to incorporate lifestyle changes that can support your recovery. This includes staying hydrated, avoiding irritants such as caffeine and alcohol, practicing stress management techniques, and engaging in regular physical activity. These changes can help improve overall health and may alleviate some of the symptoms associated with prostatitis.
Lastly, while exploring TCM, it’s crucial to maintain a collaborative approach with your healthcare providers. If symptoms persist or worsen, consider consulting a urologist to rule out any other underlying conditions. Combining the strengths of both Western and Eastern medicine can often lead to the best outcomes for complex conditions like prostatitis.
In summary, your journey with prostatitis through TCM is a valid and potentially effective approach. While it may take time to see complete resolution of symptoms, continued communication with your TCM practitioner, along with lifestyle adjustments, can support your healing process. If you have any further concerns or questions, don’t hesitate to reach out for additional guidance.
