Could this be colorectal cancer?

Three weeks ago, I noticed blood streaks on toilet paper after wiping, which lasted for two days.
Since then, I've been feeling my heart racing, experiencing some difficulty breathing, and it takes me a long time to fall asleep at night.
After that, the blood stopped appearing, but sometimes when I stand up, I feel a moment of lightheadedness.
I'm not sure if it's anemia.
This hasn't happened again, but recently, when sitting down, I feel some discomfort in my anus and have a persistent urge to have a bowel movement.
I haven't noticed any significant weight loss, but I sometimes experience pain in my lower abdomen.
Could this be colon cancer?

Dr. Ke Fangxu reply Surgery

This situation is likely due to hemorrhoidal bleeding rather than colorectal cancer.
As long as there is no further bleeding, it should not be a concern.
It is recommended to avoid constipation during this period and to shorten the time spent on the toilet.
Warm sitz baths may also help alleviate symptoms.
You can purchase hemorrhoid suppositories at the pharmacy, but it is best not to take laxatives indiscriminately.
At this age, increasing dietary fiber and hydration should be sufficient.
If bleeding persists, it is advisable to consult a physician for further evaluation.

The symptoms you describe raise several concerns, and while they could potentially be related to colorectal cancer, they are not definitive indicators of the disease. Colorectal cancer often presents with a variety of symptoms, but these symptoms can also be associated with other gastrointestinal issues or conditions.
Firstly, the presence of blood on toilet paper can be alarming and is often one of the first signs that prompts individuals to seek medical attention. However, blood in the stool can result from various causes, including hemorrhoids, anal fissures, diverticulosis, or inflammatory bowel disease, in addition to colorectal cancer. Since you mentioned that the blood was present for two days and then ceased, it may suggest a less serious issue, particularly if it has not recurred.

The sensation of a fast heartbeat, difficulty breathing, and feelings of lightheadedness when standing could indicate a variety of conditions, including anxiety, dehydration, or even anemia, especially if you have experienced any blood loss. It’s important to monitor these symptoms, as they can be related to your overall health and may warrant further investigation.

The discomfort in the anal area and persistent urge to have a bowel movement could be indicative of several conditions, including hemorrhoids or rectal irritation. The fact that you do not report significant weight loss is a positive sign, as unexplained weight loss is often a concerning symptom associated with cancer.

Regarding abdominal pain, it’s essential to consider the nature and location of the pain. If the pain is intermittent, localized, and not severe, it may not be indicative of cancer. However, if the pain persists, worsens, or is accompanied by other concerning symptoms, it would be prudent to seek medical evaluation.

Given your family history of colorectal cancer, it is wise to be vigilant about any symptoms that arise. While your symptoms may not directly indicate colorectal cancer, they warrant a thorough evaluation by a healthcare professional. A colonoscopy may be recommended, especially considering your family history and the presence of blood in your stool.
In summary, while your symptoms could potentially be related to colorectal cancer, they are not definitive indicators of the disease. It is crucial to consult with a healthcare provider who can perform a comprehensive evaluation, including a physical examination and possibly imaging or endoscopic procedures, to determine the underlying cause of your symptoms. Early detection and intervention are key in managing any potential health issues, so do not hesitate to seek medical advice.
