Ultrasound imaging
Hello Dr.
Lu,
My wife is approaching 28 weeks of pregnancy, and we would like to further monitor the growth of the fetus in the womb.
We are interested in undergoing a 3D or 4D fetal ultrasound.
Could you please let us know which hospitals in the Taipei area offer this service? Thank you for your assistance.
Best regards,
Sean Hong

Dr. Lü Lizheng reply Obstetrics and Gynecology
Hello, Mr.
Hong! As far as I know, both National Taiwan University Hospital and Chang Gung Memorial Hospital in the Taipei area offer this service.
Other major hospitals may also provide it, but please make sure to call and confirm first.
The fee structures vary by hospital (National Health Insurance does not cover it, and it must be paid out of pocket), and appointments are required in advance.
Wishing you and your family safety and happiness.
Sincerely, Dr.
Lu Li-Cheng, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Taoyuan Hospital, Ministry of Health and Welfare.

More Info
In Taipei, there are several hospitals that offer 3D and 4D fetal ultrasound services, which are popular among expectant parents who wish to capture detailed images of their developing baby. As mentioned in previous responses, two well-known institutions that provide these services are National Taiwan University Hospital (NTUH) and Chang Gung Memorial Hospital. These hospitals are equipped with advanced ultrasound technology and have experienced staff who can perform these specialized imaging techniques.
3D and 4D ultrasounds are both used to create images of the fetus, but they differ in how they present these images. A 3D ultrasound provides a three-dimensional image of the fetus, allowing parents to see the shape and features of their baby more clearly than with traditional 2D ultrasounds. On the other hand, a 4D ultrasound adds the dimension of time, creating a moving image that shows the baby in real-time. This can include movements such as yawning, stretching, or even sucking their thumb, which can be a delightful experience for parents.
When considering a visit to a hospital for a 3D or 4D ultrasound, it is essential to keep in mind that these services are typically not covered by health insurance and are considered elective. Therefore, you should expect to pay out-of-pocket for these procedures. Additionally, it is advisable to call the hospital in advance to confirm the availability of the service, as well as to inquire about the costs and whether an appointment is necessary. Many hospitals require prior booking due to the high demand for these services.
If you are looking for other options in Taipei, you might also consider smaller clinics that specialize in prenatal care, as they may offer 3D and 4D ultrasound services as well. However, it is crucial to ensure that any facility you choose is accredited and has qualified personnel to perform the ultrasound.
In summary, for 3D and 4D fetal ultrasound services in Taipei, National Taiwan University Hospital and Chang Gung Memorial Hospital are excellent choices. Make sure to call ahead to confirm details and schedule an appointment. These ultrasounds can provide a unique and memorable experience for parents, allowing them to bond with their unborn child in a special way.
