Penile curvature (non-curved)
Hello, doctor.
I didn't have this issue before, but I've recently noticed that my penis appears to be tilted when erect.
The tilt isn't like the typical curvature seen in some individuals; rather, it seems to have rotated (clockwise/counterclockwise) by a certain angle.
In other words, the urethral opening, which normally aligns vertically with the horizontal plane, is now tilted to one side.
When viewed from above, the erection appears straight without any curvature, as if the penis has rotated in place.
It doesn't affect my sexual function, but I remember it wasn't like this before.
I would like to ask you: Q1: What could be causing this? (Could it be due to masturbation habits or sexual positions, etc.?) Q2: Is there a way to correct this?

Hello, 1.
It is possible.
2.
Please first visit the urology outpatient clinic for evaluation; if necessary, surgical treatment may be considered.

More Info
Understanding penile rotation, particularly when it occurs during erection, can be a source of concern for many individuals. The phenomenon you describe, where the penis appears to have rotated rather than bent, can be attributed to several factors, including anatomical variations, changes in tissue elasticity, or even the effects of certain activities.
Q1: What Causes Penile Rotation?
1. Anatomical Variations: The human body exhibits a wide range of normal anatomical variations. Some men may have a natural inclination or rotation of the penis that becomes more noticeable during erection. This is generally harmless and does not indicate any underlying pathology.
2. Tissue Changes: Over time, the connective tissues in the penis, including the tunica albuginea, can undergo changes due to various factors such as age, hormonal fluctuations, or even trauma. These changes can affect how the penis behaves during erection, potentially leading to a rotational appearance.
3. Masturbation and Sexual Positions: While there is no direct evidence linking masturbation or specific sexual positions to penile rotation, certain activities may place stress on the penile tissues. If these activities are performed excessively or in a manner that causes discomfort, they could theoretically contribute to changes in the penis's alignment.
4. Peyronie's Disease: Although you mentioned that there is no curvature, it is worth noting that Peyronie's disease can cause changes in the shape of the penis due to the formation of fibrous scar tissue. This condition typically presents with a noticeable bend or curvature, but in some cases, it may also lead to rotational deformities. If you notice any pain, lumps, or significant changes in your erection, it would be wise to consult a healthcare provider.
Q2: Is There a Way to Correct This?
1. Observation: If the rotation does not cause any pain or interfere with sexual function, it may not require any treatment. Many men experience variations in their anatomy that do not necessitate intervention.
2. Physical Therapy: In some cases, pelvic floor physical therapy may help if there are underlying muscular or connective tissue issues contributing to the rotation. A trained physical therapist can provide exercises to improve flexibility and strength in the pelvic region.
3. Medical Consultation: If the rotation is concerning or if you experience any discomfort, it is advisable to consult a urologist. They can perform a thorough examination and may recommend imaging studies if necessary. This will help rule out any underlying conditions such as Peyronie's disease or other structural abnormalities.
4. Surgical Options: In rare cases where the rotation is significant and causes functional issues, surgical options may be considered. However, this is typically reserved for cases where there is a clear medical indication and after conservative measures have been exhausted.
5. Lifestyle Modifications: If you suspect that certain activities may be contributing to the issue, consider moderating those activities. Engaging in a balanced sexual lifestyle and practicing safe techniques can help maintain penile health.
Conclusion
In summary, penile rotation during erection can be attributed to various factors, including anatomical variations and tissue changes. If the condition does not cause pain or functional issues, it may not require treatment. However, if you have concerns or if the rotation is accompanied by discomfort, it is essential to seek medical advice for a proper evaluation and potential treatment options. Remember, open communication with a healthcare provider can help alleviate concerns and provide guidance tailored to your specific situation.
