Swelling and redness of the labia majora?
I would like to ask the doctor about my treatment for genital warts, which has been ongoing for almost a year.
The warts are located on the inner side of my labia minora.
The doctor prescribed me LedaMed to apply, and I am aware that it can cause side effects such as redness, swelling, and itching.
After the warts improved, I stopped using the medication, but now I have developed redness, swelling, and itching on my labia majora.
Initially, I thought it was a side effect, but logically, there shouldn't be any side effects since I stopped applying the medication.
I consulted another doctor who mentioned that the hot and humid weather could be the cause.
They prescribed me Four Benefits Cream, which alleviated the pain and itching after a few days.
However, now that winter is approaching and a significant amount of time has passed, the swelling on my labia majora persists.
I feel that it is not simply due to the hot summer weather.
I would like to know if the side effects of LedaMed are too strong and have caused this ongoing issue, or if there might be another reason.
Thank you, doctor, for your patience in reading my detailed description.

Persistent swelling and irritation of the labia majora can be concerning, especially after a history of treatment for condyloma (commonly known as genital warts). It’s important to understand the potential causes and implications of your symptoms, as well as the role of medications like LedaMed (likely referring to a topical treatment used for skin conditions).
Firstly, it’s essential to recognize that the labia majora and surrounding areas can be sensitive to various factors, including medications, environmental conditions, and underlying health issues. The fact that you experienced swelling and irritation after using LedaMed could be related to several factors:
1. Medication Side Effects: LedaMed, like many topical medications, can cause localized reactions such as redness, swelling, and itching. While you mentioned that you stopped using it after the condyloma cleared, it’s possible that residual irritation or sensitivity could persist for some time after discontinuation, especially if the skin was already compromised.
2. Environmental Factors: As your doctor suggested, weather conditions can significantly impact skin health. Humidity and heat can lead to increased sweating and friction, which may exacerbate irritation. However, since you mentioned that it is now winter and the symptoms persist, this may not be the sole cause.
3. Infection or Inflammation: Persistent swelling could indicate an underlying infection (such as a yeast infection or bacterial vaginosis) or inflammation unrelated to the previous condyloma. Conditions like vulvitis or dermatitis can also cause similar symptoms. If there is any discharge, odor, or additional symptoms, these could provide clues to the underlying issue.
4. Allergic Reaction: It’s also possible that you may have developed an allergic reaction to a product used in the genital area, such as soaps, detergents, or even the topical cream itself. Allergic contact dermatitis can lead to persistent swelling and irritation.
5. Hormonal Changes: Hormonal fluctuations, especially those related to menstrual cycles, can also affect the sensitivity and condition of the vulvar area.
Given that your symptoms have persisted despite treatment and environmental changes, it would be prudent to follow up with your healthcare provider. They may consider performing a physical examination to assess for any signs of infection or other dermatological conditions. Additionally, they might recommend:
- Culture Tests: To rule out any infections that may not be immediately apparent.
- Patch Testing: If an allergic reaction is suspected, this can help identify specific allergens.
- Referral to a Specialist: A dermatologist or gynecologist specializing in vulvar disorders may provide more targeted insights and treatment options.
In conclusion, while it’s possible that the side effects of LedaMed could contribute to your ongoing symptoms, other factors such as infections, allergies, or environmental influences should also be considered. It’s essential to communicate openly with your healthcare provider about your concerns and the persistence of your symptoms to ensure appropriate evaluation and management.
