Can I get pregnant?
Hello doctor, my menstrual cycle has always been irregular.
My period started on August 18, then on September 23.
On September 23, I had intercourse with my boyfriend and he ejaculated inside me; this was my first time experiencing internal ejaculation and it was on the first day of my period.
The last time we had intercourse was on October 22, where we used no condom and he ejaculated externally.
On October 24, I bought a pregnancy test and it showed one line.
Now it's November 1, and my period still hasn't arrived.
Is it possible that I am pregnant?

Hello, the chances of pregnancy are low, but it's always best to take preventive measures beforehand.
Do not rely on the safe period.
If your period is more than a week late, it is advisable to see a gynecologist.
Wishing you good health.

More Info
When it comes to the possibility of pregnancy, especially with irregular menstrual cycles, there are several factors to consider. Based on your timeline, you had your last period on August 18, followed by another on September 23. You mentioned having unprotected intercourse on September 23, which was the first day of your period, and again on October 22, using the withdrawal method. You tested for pregnancy on October 24, which showed a negative result. However, as of November 1, your period has not arrived.
Firstly, it’s important to understand that irregular periods can complicate the timing of ovulation and conception. In a typical menstrual cycle, ovulation occurs about 14 days before the start of your next period. However, with irregular cycles, predicting ovulation can be challenging. If your cycle is longer than average, ovulation may have occurred later than expected, which could mean that you could still be within the window for a late period or a potential pregnancy.
Given that you had unprotected intercourse on September 23, it is possible that sperm could have survived in your reproductive tract for several days, allowing for the possibility of fertilization if ovulation occurred shortly after that date. However, since you had a negative pregnancy test on October 24, it is also possible that you are not pregnant, especially if your period is simply delayed.
Here are some considerations and recommendations:
1. Timing of the Pregnancy Test: Pregnancy tests are most accurate when taken after a missed period. Since your period is late, it might be beneficial to take another test, preferably with the first morning urine, which is more concentrated and can provide a more accurate result.
2. Understanding Irregular Cycles: Irregular cycles can be caused by various factors, including stress, hormonal imbalances, weight changes, or underlying health conditions. If your cycles are consistently irregular, it may be worth consulting a healthcare provider for further evaluation.
3. Symptoms of Early Pregnancy: If you are pregnant, you might experience early symptoms such as nausea, breast tenderness, fatigue, or frequent urination. Keep an eye out for these signs, as they can provide additional clues.
4. Consulting a Healthcare Provider: If your period does not arrive soon and you continue to have negative pregnancy tests, it would be wise to consult a healthcare provider. They can perform a blood test to confirm pregnancy and evaluate any underlying issues contributing to your irregular cycles.
5. Future Contraceptive Measures: If you are not planning to conceive, consider discussing contraceptive options with your partner to prevent unintended pregnancies in the future.
In summary, while it is possible that you could be pregnant given the timing of your sexual activity, the negative pregnancy test suggests otherwise. Taking another test and consulting with a healthcare provider will help clarify your situation and address any concerns regarding your menstrual irregularities.
