Optometry issues?
Hello, Dr.
Tsai.
I have both myopia and astigmatism.
Recently, I went to the hospital for an eye exam, which included a test with a device that has a small house image.
In the past, during this test, the small house would gradually become clearer and then stabilize, indicating the end of the test.
However, this time, when the image stabilized, it was still a blurry small house.
Is this normal?
Additionally, I've noticed that when looking at the computer or LED signs on the street, my glasses do not seem to correct the double vision properly.
(The glasses were prescribed a year ago and are not based on this recent eye exam.) Is there a connection between this test result and the double vision, or do I simply need to get new glasses? Thank you very much for your response!

Hello, the phenomenon of a blurry small house that you described does not affect the refraction test and is likely unrelated to double vision.
As for whether you need to get new glasses, it is difficult to determine without relevant data.
If there is no improvement, it may be advisable to seek a medical examination.
Wishing you peace and health.
Sincerely, Dr.
Cai Wenyuan, Director of the Ophthalmology Department, Taoyuan Hospital, Ministry of Health and Welfare.

Hello! Thank you for your question regarding your recent vision test and the issues you're experiencing with myopia (nearsightedness) and astigmatism. Let's break down your concerns and provide some clarity on the situation.
Firstly, it's important to understand the basic concepts of myopia and astigmatism. Myopia occurs when the eyeball is too long or the cornea is too curved, causing light rays to focus in front of the retina, resulting in blurry distance vision. Astigmatism, on the other hand, is caused by an irregular shape of the cornea or lens, leading to distorted or blurred vision at all distances.
In your case, you mentioned that during your recent vision test, the small house image remained blurry instead of becoming clear. This could indicate that your current prescription is not adequately correcting your vision. Vision tests typically involve adjusting lenses until the patient can see the image clearly. If the image remains blurry, it suggests that the corrective lenses you are using may not be suitable for your current vision needs.
You also noted that you are experiencing double vision (ghosting) when looking at computer screens and LED signs. This phenomenon can be related to several factors, including an incorrect prescription, the quality of the lenses, or even eye fatigue. Since your glasses were prescribed a year ago and not based on your latest test results, it is quite possible that your vision has changed, necessitating a new prescription.
The relationship between your blurry vision during the test and the double vision you are experiencing is significant. If your glasses are not providing the correct correction for your myopia and astigmatism, it can lead to visual disturbances such as double vision. Additionally, if the lenses are not properly aligned with your eyes, this can exacerbate the issue.
Given these factors, it would be advisable to consult with your eye care professional about getting a new prescription based on your most recent vision test. They can also assess the quality of your current lenses and determine if they are contributing to your visual discomfort.
In summary, the blurry results during your vision test are not typical and suggest that your current glasses may not be adequately correcting your vision. It is essential to have an updated prescription that reflects any changes in your eyesight. I recommend scheduling an appointment with your eye care provider to discuss your symptoms and the need for new lenses. Regular eye exams are crucial, especially if you notice changes in your vision, as they help ensure that your corrective lenses are effective and that your overall eye health is maintained.
Thank you for reaching out, and I hope this information helps clarify your situation! If you have any further questions or concerns, feel free to ask.
