Post-Procedure Issues After Urological Electrocautery - Urology

Postoperative issues related to cauliflower?

Hello doctor, I had my second electrocautery procedure a little over a week ago.
As of today, the wound has healed about 60% in less than two weeks, but I can feel a small raised bump at the wound site that is painful.
Could this be a wart or a result of the electrocautery procedure? Additionally, is it normal for the electrocautery wound to itch during the healing process?

Kk, 20~29 year old female. Ask Date: 2016/12/14

Dr. Du Shixi reply Urology

Hello: The electrosurgery site is healed, please keep the wound dry and clean, and increase your intake of vitamin C.
If the wound is larger, there may be some hardness around it, and scabbing may be raised.
If the wound is not red, itching is not a bad sign.
Thank you for your inquiry.
(If you do not have a follow-up appointment, consider returning for a check-up in about two weeks if your wound has not healed.)

More Info

After undergoing a second electrocautery procedure, it is not uncommon to experience some post-procedural issues, including pain and changes in the appearance of the wound. The fact that you have noticed a small, painful bump at the site of the wound could be attributed to several factors, including the healing process itself or the formation of scar tissue.
Electrocautery is a technique that uses electrical currents to cut tissue or coagulate blood vessels, and it can lead to thermal injury to the surrounding tissues. As the wound heals, it is possible for scar tissue to form, which may feel different from the surrounding skin. This can sometimes present as a raised area or bump at the site of the procedure. It is important to monitor this area for any changes, such as increased redness, swelling, or discharge, which could indicate an infection or other complications.

Regarding the healing process, it is normal for wounds to take time to heal, and the timeline can vary significantly from person to person. Factors such as the extent of the procedure, your overall health, and how well you follow post-operative care instructions can all influence healing. Typically, the initial healing phase can take a few weeks, and complete healing may take longer. During this time, some tenderness, swelling, or even mild discharge can occur as part of the normal healing process.

If you are experiencing persistent pain or if the bump continues to grow or change in appearance, it would be advisable to follow up with your healthcare provider. They can assess the wound and determine whether it is a normal part of the healing process or if further intervention is needed.
In summary, while some discomfort and changes in the wound area can be expected after electrocautery, it is crucial to keep an eye on the healing process and consult with your doctor if you have any concerns. They can provide guidance tailored to your specific situation and help ensure that your recovery proceeds smoothly.
