Semen color

Hello doctor, I have never masturbated, so sometimes I experience nocturnal emissions.
I didn't pay much attention to it before, but recently I noticed that the color of my semen is not the typical milky white; instead, it appears light yellow as shown in the photo I took (http://imgur.com/a/RCcF0).
Is this normal? Should I seek medical advice? Please respond.

More Info

Semen color can vary for several reasons, and while a change in color can be concerning, it is not always indicative of a serious health issue. Normal semen is typically a whitish-gray color, but it can sometimes appear yellowish. This change can be influenced by various factors, including diet, hydration levels, and even the frequency of ejaculation.

In your case, the observation of a yellowish tint in your semen could be due to several benign reasons. For instance, certain foods, such as those high in sulfur (like garlic and onions), can alter the color of semen. Additionally, dehydration can concentrate the semen, leading to a more yellow appearance. If you have not been sexually active or have experienced infrequent ejaculation, this can also contribute to changes in semen color.

However, there are instances when a change in semen color may warrant medical attention. If the yellow color is accompanied by other symptoms such as a strong odor, pain during ejaculation, swelling in the genital area, or any unusual discharge, it could indicate an infection or other medical condition, such as prostatitis or a sexually transmitted infection (STI). In such cases, it is advisable to seek medical advice.

Moreover, if the yellow color persists over time or if you have any concerns about your reproductive health, it is a good idea to consult a healthcare professional. They can perform a thorough evaluation, which may include a physical examination and possibly a semen analysis, to determine if there is an underlying issue that needs to be addressed.

In summary, while a yellowish tint in semen can be normal and may not require immediate medical attention, it is essential to monitor for any accompanying symptoms. If you notice any concerning signs or if the color change persists, do not hesitate to seek medical advice for peace of mind and appropriate care. Remember, maintaining open communication with your healthcare provider about any changes in your body is crucial for your overall health and well-being.
