Am I Pregnant? Post-Abortion Pregnancy Risks - Obstetrics and Gynecology

Is it possible to be pregnant?

I had a 9-week abortion (dilation and curettage) on November 10.
Less than three weeks later, I had unprotected intercourse with withdrawal.
My period was expected on December 24, but it did not come.
Is it possible that I could be pregnant? I did not have a follow-up appointment after the procedure; could that affect my chances of getting pregnant? On January 3, I took a pregnancy test and saw two lines (one dark and one faint).
Does this indicate pregnancy, or could it be a false positive? On January 4, I took another pregnancy test, and the two lines were more pronounced.
Does this mean I am truly pregnant? I am unsure if my uterus has fully healed since my period has not returned.
I feel like I might really be pregnant.
Please help me with your answers, doctor.

More Info

Based on your description, it appears that you may indeed be pregnant. After undergoing a surgical abortion on November 10, you engaged in unprotected sexual intercourse shortly thereafter, which could have led to conception. The absence of your expected menstrual period on December 24 is another indicator that you might be pregnant.
When you conducted a pregnancy test on January 3 and received a positive result (with one line darker than the other), this is typically a strong indication of pregnancy. The fact that the second test on January 4 showed two lines that were more pronounced further supports this conclusion. In home pregnancy tests, the presence of two lines generally indicates a positive result, with the intensity of the lines reflecting the level of the pregnancy hormone hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) in your urine.
Regarding your concerns about whether the absence of your menstrual period and the timing of your sexual activity post-abortion could affect your pregnancy, it is important to note that after an abortion, it can take some time for your menstrual cycle to return to normal. However, this does not prevent the possibility of becoming pregnant again shortly after the procedure.
It is also crucial to consider the physical and emotional aspects of becoming pregnant soon after an abortion. While many women do go on to have healthy pregnancies after an abortion, there are some risks to be aware of. These can include complications related to the healing of the uterus and potential emotional challenges.
If you suspect you are pregnant, it is advisable to schedule an appointment with your healthcare provider. They can perform a blood test to confirm the pregnancy and assess your overall health. Additionally, they can provide guidance on what to expect during the early stages of pregnancy, especially considering your recent abortion.
In summary, based on the information provided, it seems likely that you are pregnant. The positive pregnancy tests you have taken support this conclusion. However, it is essential to consult with a healthcare professional to confirm the pregnancy and discuss any potential risks or concerns you may have regarding your health and the health of the fetus. They can also provide you with the necessary support and resources as you navigate this new chapter.
