I would like to inquire about the approximate date of conception?
Hello, doctor: I have a question.
I previously had prenatal check-ups at three different clinics, which estimated my due date to be January 5 and January 9.
However, I gave birth to a 3,000-gram baby girl on December 31.
Although it was a full-term delivery, I would like to know the approximate date of conception.
During my prenatal check-up on May 28, 2016, I was at 7 weeks and 6 days, with a crown-rump length (CRL) of 1.50 cm.
I had intercourse on April 5, April 9, and April 15.
Can I determine which date of intercourse led to the pregnancy? Thank you!
Niming, 20~29 year old female. Ask Date: 2017/01/15

Hello, I apologize for not being able to accurately determine the date of conception based on your description.
It could be April 15, but it may also be at another time.
If you still have concerns, I recommend consulting your original obstetrician.
Wishing you good health.

To estimate the conception date based on due dates and ultrasound results, we need to consider several factors, including the last menstrual period (LMP), the average length of the menstrual cycle, and the measurements taken during ultrasounds.
In your case, you mentioned that you had three different due dates estimated by different clinics, which were January 5 and January 9, and you delivered a baby on December 31. Generally, the due date is calculated as 40 weeks from the first day of your last menstrual period. If we assume a typical 28-day cycle, we can estimate the conception date.
Given that you delivered on December 31, we can backtrack to find the estimated due date. If we take January 5 as the due date, subtracting 40 weeks (or 280 days) would place your LMP around March 29 of the previous year. This would suggest that conception likely occurred around April 12, assuming ovulation occurred approximately two weeks after your LMP.
Now, regarding the ultrasounds you had on May 28, where the gestational age was measured at 7 weeks and 6 days, this would also help us narrow down the conception date. If we take the ultrasound measurement as accurate, we can calculate the estimated conception date by subtracting the gestational age from the ultrasound date.
7 weeks and 6 days corresponds to approximately 54 days (7 weeks x 7 days + 6 days) before May 28, which would place the estimated conception date around April 3. This aligns closely with your reported dates of intercourse on April 5, April 9, and April 15.
Given that sperm can survive in the female reproductive tract for up to five days, if you had intercourse on April 5, it is plausible that this could be the date of conception, especially if ovulation occurred shortly after. The other dates of intercourse (April 9 and April 15) could also be potential conception dates, but they are less likely if we consider the timing of ovulation.
In summary, based on the information provided, the estimated conception date would likely be around April 3, with the most probable date of intercourse being April 5. However, it is important to note that due dates and conception estimates can vary due to individual differences in menstrual cycles and ovulation timing. Ultrasound measurements are generally considered more accurate for dating pregnancies, especially in the first trimester, so the ultrasound results should be given significant weight in determining gestational age and estimating conception dates.
In conclusion, while the estimated conception date based on your ultrasound results and due dates suggests early April, it is essential to remember that these are estimates and can vary based on various factors, including the accuracy of menstrual cycle tracking and the timing of ovulation. If you have further questions or concerns about your pregnancy or conception dates, it would be advisable to consult with your healthcare provider for personalized guidance.
