Are you pregnant?
Hello, I would like to ask about the likelihood of being pregnant.
My last menstrual period was from December 3 to December 10, with a cycle of about 25 days, and I often experience menstrual cramps.
I had sexual intercourse on December 31, using a condom throughout.
However, today is January 19, and my period has not arrived yet (I have had irregular sleep patterns for a few days in between).
Currently, I am experiencing a feeling of heaviness in my lower abdomen and increased vaginal discharge.
I also have a cough due to a cold, and when I cough persistently, I sometimes feel nauseous.
Given this situation, what is the likelihood of pregnancy? Thank you, doctor.

Hello, the chances of getting pregnant are low, but it's best to take preventive measures at all times.
Do not rely on the safe period.
If your period is more than a week late, it is advisable to see a gynecologist.
Wishing you good health.

More Info
When considering the possibility of pregnancy, it is essential to evaluate several factors, including your menstrual cycle, timing of sexual intercourse, contraceptive methods used, and any symptoms you may be experiencing. Based on the details you've provided, let's break down the situation.
Your last menstrual period (LMP) was from December 3 to December 10, and you typically have a 25-day cycle. This means that your next period would be expected around December 31. You mentioned having sexual intercourse on December 31, which is close to your expected ovulation period, given that ovulation typically occurs about 14 days before your next period. If you ovulated around this time, there is a chance that sperm could have fertilized an egg, leading to pregnancy.
You also noted that you used a condom during intercourse, which is an effective method of contraception when used correctly. However, no contraceptive method is 100% effective, and there is always a small risk of failure, such as condom breakage or slippage.
Now, regarding your symptoms: you mentioned experiencing lower abdominal discomfort, increased vaginal discharge, and feelings of nausea, especially when coughing. While these symptoms can be associated with early pregnancy, they can also be attributed to other factors, such as hormonal changes, stress, or even an impending menstrual period. The fact that you have been experiencing irregular sleep patterns and stress could also contribute to these symptoms.
Given that your period is late, it would be advisable to take a home pregnancy test. These tests are designed to detect the hormone human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG), which is produced during pregnancy. If you take the test and it is negative but your period still does not arrive, you may want to consult a healthcare provider for further evaluation. They can perform a blood test, which is more sensitive than urine tests, and can provide a definitive answer regarding pregnancy.
In summary, while there is a possibility of pregnancy given the timing of your sexual activity and your late period, the use of a condom significantly reduces that risk. Your symptoms could be related to various factors, including hormonal changes or stress. A home pregnancy test will be the best next step to clarify your situation. If you have further concerns or if your symptoms persist, seeking medical advice is always a good idea.
