Vaginal bleeding
Hello doctor, on January 19th, I inserted my finger into my girlfriend's vagina.
Afterward, I noticed some bleeding, which continued intermittently for about a day, but the amount was not significant.
She experienced some pain in her vagina and uterus, but there were no other unusual symptoms.
We haven't had intercourse in the last two months, and her menstrual period started on January 7th.
Could this be due to a scratch from my fingernail (which was a bit long at the time)? Thank you, doctor!

Hello, I apologize for not being able to provide a diagnosis based on your description.
It could possibly be a nail scratch.
If you continue to experience discomfort, I recommend seeing a gynecologist.
Wishing you good health.

More Info
Vaginal bleeding after intercourse can be concerning, and it is essential to understand the potential causes and when to seek medical attention. Based on your description, it seems that the bleeding occurred after you inserted your finger into your girlfriend's vagina, and she experienced some pain along with the bleeding. Given that her menstrual period was on January 7 and that you have not engaged in sexual activity for the past two months, there are several factors to consider.
First and foremost, one of the most common causes of post-coital bleeding is trauma to the vaginal walls or cervix. If your fingernails were long, it is indeed possible that they could have caused a minor abrasion or scratch inside the vagina, leading to bleeding. The vaginal tissue is delicate, and even slight trauma can result in bleeding, especially if there is any friction involved. This type of bleeding is usually light and may resolve on its own within a few days.
Another possibility is that the bleeding could be related to hormonal fluctuations. Since your girlfriend's last menstrual period was on January 7, she may be approaching ovulation, which can sometimes cause spotting due to changes in hormone levels. This is known as ovulation bleeding and is typically light and short-lived.
In addition to trauma and hormonal changes, other causes of vaginal bleeding after intercourse could include infections, such as bacterial vaginosis or sexually transmitted infections (STIs), which can cause inflammation and bleeding. If there is any unusual discharge, odor, or persistent pain, it would be wise to consult a healthcare provider for further evaluation.
It is also important to consider the possibility of cervical issues, such as cervical polyps or inflammation, which can lead to bleeding after intercourse. If your girlfriend has a history of irregular periods or any gynecological issues, these factors should be discussed with a healthcare professional.
In terms of management, if the bleeding is light and resolves on its own, it may not require immediate medical attention. However, if the bleeding persists for more than a few days, becomes heavier, or is accompanied by severe pain, fever, or unusual discharge, it is crucial to seek medical advice. A healthcare provider can perform a thorough examination, including a pelvic exam, to determine the cause of the bleeding and recommend appropriate treatment.
In summary, while minor trauma from fingernails could be a likely cause of the bleeding, it is essential to monitor the situation closely. If there are any concerning symptoms or if the bleeding does not resolve, seeking medical attention is the best course of action. Open communication with your partner about any discomfort or symptoms is also vital in ensuring her health and well-being.
