Glans issues

I would like to ask, I have a condition of phimosis, and is it normal for the area behind the glans to appear purple? It only feels very sensitive when I touch it after retracting the foreskin during showering.
Additionally, after urinating, I still notice a few drops of urine dripping when I put my pants back on.
What could this condition be?

Dr. Du Shixi reply Urology

Hello: Due to phimosis, the glans is covered for an extended period, which can sometimes lead to sensitivity and the discoloration issues you mentioned.
As for the occasional leakage of a few drops of urine, this is also a common issue associated with phimosis, so there's no need to worry too much.
Thank you for your inquiry.

More Info

Phimosis is a condition where the foreskin of the penis cannot be easily retracted over the glans (the head of the penis). This condition can be congenital (present at birth) or acquired due to scarring or inflammation. In your case, you mentioned that the glans appears purple, which can be concerning, especially if it is accompanied by sensitivity and post-urination dribbling.

The purple coloration of the glans could be due to several factors. One possibility is that it may be a result of restricted blood flow or irritation caused by the tight foreskin. When the foreskin is not able to retract properly, it can lead to a buildup of pressure and possibly cause discoloration. However, if the discoloration is persistent or accompanied by pain, swelling, or other symptoms, it is essential to seek medical advice.

The sensitivity you experience when touching the area, particularly during bathing, is not uncommon in individuals with phimosis. The skin of the glans is typically more sensitive, especially if it has not been exposed frequently due to the foreskin covering it. This sensitivity can sometimes lead to discomfort or pain when the area is manipulated.

Regarding the post-urination dribbling, this can occur for a few reasons. It might be related to the anatomy of the urethra and how urine is expelled. If the foreskin is tight, it may not allow for complete drainage of urine, leading to dribbling after urination. This can also be a sign of incomplete bladder emptying, which may warrant further investigation.

In terms of treatment, if phimosis is causing significant discomfort, hygiene issues, or urinary problems, it is advisable to consult a urologist. They may recommend options such as:
1. Topical Steroid Creams: These can help to soften the foreskin and make it easier to retract over time.

2. Gentle Stretching Exercises: Under medical guidance, stretching the foreskin can sometimes alleviate the tightness.

3. Circumcision: In more severe cases, surgical removal of the foreskin may be recommended, especially if there are recurrent infections or significant discomfort.

It is important to address any concerns regarding the appearance of the glans or any associated symptoms with a healthcare professional. They can provide a thorough examination and determine if there are any underlying conditions that need to be addressed. Additionally, maintaining good hygiene is crucial, especially in cases of phimosis, to prevent infections.

In summary, while a purple glans can be associated with phimosis, it is essential to monitor any changes and consult with a healthcare provider for a proper diagnosis and treatment plan. Your symptoms of sensitivity and post-urination dribbling should not be ignored, as they can indicate the need for medical intervention.
