Inability to focus with both eyes after a collision?

Hello, I accidentally fell from a height of about three meters while skiing today and hit my head.
My helmet cracked (in the back) and so far, I have assessed myself and my consciousness is clear.
However, I notice that the visual angles of my left and right eyes are different; the left eye sees a wider field of view, rotating about 10 degrees to the right, which makes it difficult for me to focus with both eyes.
I can see clearly with one eye.
Should I seek immediate medical attention?

Hello, and thank you for reaching out regarding your post-impact vision issues after your skiing accident. Given the details you've provided, it is crucial to take your symptoms seriously, especially considering the nature of your injury.

Firstly, any head trauma, particularly one that results in a fall from a height, can lead to various complications, including concussions, intracranial hemorrhages, or other serious injuries. The fact that your helmet cracked indicates a significant impact, which should not be overlooked.
Your description of experiencing a difference in visual perception between your left and right eyes, where the left eye seems to have a wider field of view, is concerning. This could be indicative of several potential issues, including:
1. Concussion: This is a common result of head trauma and can lead to various symptoms, including visual disturbances, headaches, dizziness, and confusion.

2. Retinal Injury: The impact could potentially cause damage to the retina, leading to issues such as retinal detachment or tears, which can manifest as changes in vision.

3. Optic Nerve Damage: Trauma can also affect the optic nerve, leading to visual field defects or other vision problems.

4. Cerebral Injury: Depending on the impact, there could be underlying brain injuries that affect visual processing.

Given these possibilities, it is essential to seek immediate medical attention. Here are some specific symptoms that warrant urgent evaluation:
- Persistent or worsening headache: If your headache intensifies or does not improve, this could indicate increased intracranial pressure or other complications.

- Vision changes: Any significant changes in vision, such as blurriness, double vision, or loss of vision, should be evaluated by a healthcare professional.

- Dizziness or balance issues: If you experience dizziness, trouble walking, or a sense of imbalance, these could be signs of a more serious condition.

- Nausea or vomiting: These symptoms can also indicate increased intracranial pressure or other complications following head trauma.

- Confusion or changes in consciousness: If you experience confusion, difficulty concentrating, or changes in your level of consciousness, you should seek immediate care.

In summary, while you may feel that your symptoms are manageable at the moment, the potential risks associated with head trauma necessitate a thorough evaluation by a medical professional. It is better to err on the side of caution, especially with your vision being affected. I strongly recommend that you go to the nearest emergency room or urgent care facility for a comprehensive examination, including a neurological assessment and possibly imaging studies to rule out any serious injuries. Your health and safety are paramount, and prompt medical attention can help prevent further complications.
