Can I get pregnant?

Hello Doctor: I would like to inquire about my situation.
We had unprotected intercourse on January 20, February 4, and February 14, and I had ejaculation inside.
My period came on January 23 and lasted about 4.5 days.
However, I have not gotten my period this month, and I am experiencing breast tenderness and occasional mild pain on the left lower abdomen near the uterus.
Could this be a sign of pregnancy? Additionally, I had a fatty tumor removal from my arm on February 15.
Could this have any impact? How should I calculate my cycle? Thank you for your help, Doctor.

It sounds like you're experiencing some concerning symptoms and have questions about the possibility of pregnancy. Based on the details you've provided, let's break down your situation and clarify some key points regarding pregnancy symptoms, cycle calculations, and the potential impact of your recent surgery.

First, it's important to understand that the menstrual cycle can vary significantly from person to person, and even from month to month for the same individual. The average menstrual cycle is about 28 days, but cycles can range from 21 to 35 days. You mentioned that your last menstrual period started on January 23, and you typically have a cycle length of around 30 days. If we use that as a baseline, your next expected period would be around February 22. Since you mentioned that your period has not yet arrived, this could be a sign of pregnancy, especially given the unprotected intercourse on January 20, February 4, and February 14.

The symptoms you're experiencing, such as breast tenderness and lower abdominal discomfort, can indeed be early signs of pregnancy. Breast tenderness is common due to hormonal changes that occur after conception. The lower abdominal pain you described, particularly on the left side, could be related to various factors, including ovulation pain, implantation, or even early pregnancy changes. However, it’s essential to note that these symptoms can also be associated with premenstrual syndrome (PMS) or other conditions.

Regarding your surgery on February 15 for the removal of a fatty tumor, it's unlikely that this would directly affect your menstrual cycle or the possibility of pregnancy. However, any surgical procedure can cause temporary hormonal fluctuations or stress on the body, which might influence your cycle. If you are concerned about how the surgery may impact your health or pregnancy, it’s best to consult with your healthcare provider.

To determine if you are pregnant, the most reliable method is to take a home pregnancy test. These tests are designed to detect the hormone human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG), which is produced shortly after a fertilized egg attaches to the uterine lining. For the most accurate results, it’s recommended to wait until at least the day of your expected period to take the test. If you test too early, you may receive a false negative result.

If your period does not arrive and the home pregnancy test is positive, it’s important to schedule an appointment with your healthcare provider for confirmation and to discuss your options moving forward. If the test is negative and your period still does not come, you should also consult your doctor, as they can help determine the cause of your missed period and any underlying issues that may need to be addressed.

In summary, based on your symptoms and cycle history, there is a possibility that you could be pregnant. However, the best course of action is to take a home pregnancy test and consult with your healthcare provider for personalized advice and care. They can provide you with the necessary support and information regarding your health and any implications from your recent surgery.
