Foreskin issues
Hello: I have developed small raised bumps on my foreskin that have been present for about two to three years.
They haven't caused any symptoms or pain, but I have been very worried.
I'm concerned that they might be due to an infection from bathing and now they seem to be increasing in number.
Should I see a doctor for an examination?

When it comes to bumps on the foreskin, it is essential to approach the situation with caution and awareness. While you mentioned that these bumps have been present for two to three years without causing pain or other symptoms, it is still advisable to consult a healthcare professional for several reasons.
Firstly, any persistent changes in the skin, especially in sensitive areas such as the genital region, should be evaluated by a doctor. Even if the bumps are not causing discomfort, they could be indicative of an underlying condition that requires attention. Conditions such as pearly penile papules, which are harmless and common, or other dermatological issues, could present similarly. However, there are also more serious conditions, such as sexually transmitted infections (STIs) or other dermatological disorders, that could manifest as bumps on the foreskin.
Secondly, while you may suspect that the bumps could be due to poor hygiene or an infection, it is crucial to understand that self-diagnosis can often lead to unnecessary anxiety or misinterpretation of symptoms. A healthcare provider can conduct a thorough examination and, if necessary, perform tests to determine the exact nature of the bumps. This could include a physical examination, swabs for laboratory analysis, or even a biopsy if there is any suspicion of malignancy or other serious conditions.
Moreover, discussing your concerns with a doctor can provide you with peace of mind. The healthcare professional can explain the possible causes of the bumps, discuss treatment options if needed, and provide guidance on proper hygiene practices to prevent any potential infections in the future.
In terms of finding the right medical resource, you should consider visiting a urologist, who specializes in male reproductive health, or a dermatologist with experience in genital skin conditions. These specialists are well-equipped to address your concerns and provide the appropriate care.
In summary, while the bumps on your foreskin may not currently be causing any symptoms, it is wise to seek medical advice. A healthcare professional can help you understand what these bumps are, whether they require treatment, and how to maintain good genital health moving forward. Remember, early intervention is often key to managing any health issue effectively, so don’t hesitate to make an appointment for a thorough evaluation.
