Foreskin issues
Hello, doctor: I apologize for bothering you again.
I have observed some errors previously.
At room temperature, when I am not erect, the length of my foreskin just covers the glans, and I can see a bit of the urethral opening.
I can retract the foreskin all the way back without any discomfort.
When I remove my underwear and become erect, only about 1/4 of the glans is exposed, but I can also retract the foreskin all the way back without any discomfort, just a slight sticky feeling at most.
However, when I wear underwear and become erect, the foreskin can only retract enough to reveal the complete urethral opening due to the restriction of the underwear.
My penis measures 7 cm when not erect (the length of the glans is slightly more), and 14 cm when erect, with a slight left curvature (not noticeable).
At my age, I have never experienced any discomfort down there; I just feel like it hasn't grown much, but in terms of nutrition and exercise, I would say it is quite sufficient.
Secondary sexual characteristics are very evident.
I would like to ask the doctor, with this degree of foreskin, will it affect penile development? I have seen articles online that seem to have two opposing views, and I am unsure which is correct...
If it does affect development, is it too late to undergo circumcision now?

Dr. Du Shixi reply Urology
Hello: Whether to circumcise or not does not have an impact.
If surgery is needed, it is usually due to phimosis or frequent inflammation, rather than for developmental purposes.
Thank you for your inquiry.

Understanding foreskin issues and their potential impact on penis development is a common concern among many individuals. In your case, it appears that you have a normal range of foreskin coverage, and you are able to retract the foreskin without discomfort, which is a positive sign.
To address your primary question: the presence of foreskin, in itself, does not typically hinder the development of the penis. Penis development is primarily influenced by genetic factors, hormonal levels, and overall health during puberty. The foreskin is a natural part of male anatomy, and as long as it can be retracted without pain or difficulty, it is generally not a cause for concern.
There are two main schools of thought regarding the impact of foreskin on penis development. One perspective suggests that excessive foreskin can lead to issues such as phimosis (inability to retract the foreskin) or other complications that might affect hygiene and sexual health. However, in your case, since you can retract the foreskin without discomfort, it is unlikely that you are experiencing any negative effects on development.
The second perspective emphasizes that the foreskin does not play a role in the physical growth of the penis. Instead, penis size and development are largely determined by genetic predisposition and hormonal influences during puberty. The fact that you have experienced normal secondary sexual characteristics and have no discomfort suggests that your penis is developing appropriately.
Regarding your concern about whether circumcision would be beneficial at this stage, it is important to note that circumcision is typically performed for medical, hygienic, or personal reasons rather than as a means to enhance penis development. If you are not experiencing any issues such as recurrent infections, pain, or difficulty with hygiene, there may be no medical necessity for circumcision.
If you are considering circumcision for personal reasons, it is advisable to consult with a healthcare professional who can provide guidance based on your specific situation. They can help you weigh the benefits and risks associated with the procedure, as well as discuss any potential impact on sexual function or sensation.
In summary, based on the information you provided, it does not appear that your foreskin is negatively affecting your penis development. As long as you are comfortable and able to maintain proper hygiene, there is likely no need for concern. If you have further questions or experience any changes, it is always best to consult with a healthcare provider who can offer personalized advice and support.
