Is it a sebaceous cyst or folliculitis?
Hello, recently while showering and cleaning my penis, I suddenly noticed some white bumps on it, measuring about 0.1 to 0.3 cm.
They are not painful, and I have picked at them, which resulted in hard material coming out.
The location is just below the glans, on the blood vessels in the middle of the penis.
I have not engaged in sexual intercourse yet.
Could this be a pearly penile papule or folliculitis? Should I seek medical attention for this?

It could be a sebaceous cyst, but without actually seeing the lesion, it cannot be confirmed.
If it is causing significant distress, please seek medical attention promptly.

More Info
When it comes to the appearance of white bumps on the penis, there are several potential causes, and understanding these can help in determining whether medical attention is necessary. Based on your description, the bumps you are experiencing could be either sebaceous cysts (often referred to as epidermoid cysts), folliculitis, or possibly even pearly penile papules, which are normal anatomical variations.
Sebaceous Cysts: These are small, benign lumps that can occur anywhere on the body, including the genital area. They are typically filled with a substance called sebum, which is produced by sebaceous glands. These cysts are usually painless and may appear white or yellowish. They can sometimes become inflamed or infected, leading to redness, swelling, and discomfort.
Folliculitis: This condition occurs when hair follicles become inflamed, often due to infection. It can present as small red or white bumps that may resemble pimples. Folliculitis can be caused by bacteria, fungi, or irritation from shaving or friction. If the bumps are itchy or painful, it may indicate an infection that could require treatment.
Pearly Penile Papules: These are small, harmless bumps that typically appear around the corona of the glans (the head of the penis). They are a normal anatomical variant and do not require treatment. They are often mistaken for sexually transmitted infections or other conditions, but they are completely benign.
Given that you mentioned the bumps are not painful and you have not engaged in sexual activity, it is less likely that they are related to a sexually transmitted infection. However, if you have squeezed the bumps and noticed any bleeding or if they have become inflamed, it is advisable to avoid further manipulation, as this can lead to infection or scarring.
When to Seek Medical Attention: If the bumps change in appearance, become painful, or if you notice any other concerning symptoms (such as discharge, persistent redness, or swelling), it is important to consult a healthcare professional. A urologist or dermatologist can provide a proper diagnosis and recommend appropriate treatment if necessary.
In summary, while the white bumps you are experiencing may not be a cause for immediate concern, it is always best to err on the side of caution. If you are uncertain or if the bumps persist, seeking medical advice is the best course of action. Regular self-examinations and maintaining good hygiene can also help in monitoring any changes in your genital area.
