Acne issues
Doctor, I have developed a pimple near my right eyebrow and another close to my left ear.
These pimples are not itchy, but they are very painful when pressed.
What could this be? Is it a sexually transmitted infection?

More Info
The painful pimples you are experiencing near your eyebrow and close to your left ear could be attributed to several potential causes, but they are unlikely to be related to a sexually transmitted disease (STD). Let's explore some possible explanations for your symptoms.
1. Folliculitis: This is an inflammation of the hair follicles, often caused by bacterial or fungal infections. It can lead to red, painful bumps that may resemble pimples. Folliculitis can occur anywhere on the body where hair follicles are present, including the scalp and face.
2. Acne: While typically associated with the face, acne can manifest in various forms, including painful cysts or nodules. These can be tender to the touch and may not always present with the typical characteristics of acne, such as itching or pus.
3. Sebaceous Cysts: These are non-cancerous lumps beneath the skin that can become inflamed or infected, leading to pain. They are often filled with a fatty substance and can occur anywhere on the body.
4. Dermatitis: Conditions like contact dermatitis or seborrheic dermatitis can cause localized inflammation and painful bumps. These conditions may arise from irritants or allergens that come into contact with the skin.
5. Shingles (Herpes Zoster): If you have a history of chickenpox, the varicella-zoster virus can reactivate and cause shingles, which may present as painful blisters in a localized area. This is typically accompanied by other symptoms, such as burning or tingling sensations.
6. Lymphadenopathy: Sometimes, swollen lymph nodes in the area can cause pain and discomfort, leading to the appearance of bumps. This can occur due to infections or other underlying conditions.
Given that these bumps are painful but not itchy, it is less likely that they are related to an STD. STDs typically present with a range of symptoms, including itching, unusual discharge, or lesions that are often more widespread.
Recommendations:
- Consult a Healthcare Provider: It is essential to see a healthcare professional for an accurate diagnosis. They may perform a physical examination and, if necessary, order tests to determine the exact cause of your symptoms.
- Avoid Picking or Squeezing: Manipulating the bumps can lead to further irritation or infection.
- Maintain Good Hygiene: Keeping the affected area clean can help prevent further irritation or infection.
- Topical Treatments: Over-the-counter topical treatments containing benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid may help if the bumps are acne-related. However, consult with a healthcare provider before starting any treatment.
In summary, while the painful pimples you are experiencing are concerning, they are unlikely to be related to an STD. A thorough evaluation by a healthcare professional will provide clarity and appropriate treatment options.
