Rectal bleeding

Hello, doctor.
Thank you for taking the time to respond.
I have noticed blood in my stool, with blood floating on the surface of the water, and there is also blood when I wipe with toilet paper.
However, the color and shape of the stool are normal (brown, round, and formed), and it is not related to my menstrual period.
I drink plenty of water, eat a lot of fruits and vegetables, do not consume meat, drink alcohol infrequently, and do not smoke.
My sleep schedule is regular, and I have not experienced significant stress recently.
I have not noticed any external hemorrhoids, and I do not strain while using the toilet.
There is no itching or pain around the anal area.
Could this be bleeding from hemorrhoids?

Your medical history is clearly described, and you also understand that it doesn't seem very much like a hemorrhoid issue.
Therefore, you need to visit a colorectal surgeon or a gastroenterologist for further evaluation and physical examination to rule out other possibilities, and you may even need to schedule a colonoscopy for confirmation.

When it comes to the presence of blood in stool, it is essential to approach the situation with caution and a thorough understanding of potential causes. Based on your description, the blood appears to be on the surface of the stool or in the toilet water, and you have noted that your stool itself is of normal color and shape. This detail is significant as it can help narrow down the possible causes of the bleeding.

One common cause of blood in the stool, particularly when it is bright red and appears on the surface or in the toilet water, is hemorrhoids. Hemorrhoids are swollen veins in the lower rectum or anus that can cause discomfort, itching, and bleeding, especially during bowel movements. However, you mentioned that you do not experience any itching, pain, or straining during bowel movements, which may suggest that hemorrhoids are less likely in your case.

Another potential cause of blood in the stool is anal fissures, which are small tears in the lining of the anus. These can occur due to passing hard stools or straining, and they can cause bleeding that is bright red. However, since you have not reported any pain or discomfort, this may also be less likely.

Other gastrointestinal issues could also lead to blood in the stool. Conditions such as diverticulosis, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), or even polyps can cause bleeding. However, these conditions often present with additional symptoms, such as abdominal pain, changes in bowel habits, or weight loss.

Given that you maintain a healthy lifestyle—adequate hydration, a diet rich in fruits and vegetables, and regular sleep patterns—this may reduce the likelihood of certain gastrointestinal issues. However, it is still crucial to consider that even healthy individuals can experience gastrointestinal problems.

While your symptoms may suggest hemorrhoids or anal fissures, it is essential to consult a healthcare professional for a definitive diagnosis. A thorough examination, including a physical examination and possibly a rectal exam, may be necessary to determine the exact cause of the bleeding. In some cases, further diagnostic tests, such as a colonoscopy, may be recommended to rule out more serious conditions, especially if the bleeding persists or is accompanied by other symptoms.

In summary, while hemorrhoids could be a potential cause of the blood you are observing, it is essential to seek medical advice to rule out other possible conditions. Early diagnosis and treatment are crucial for any gastrointestinal issues, and a healthcare professional can provide the appropriate guidance based on your specific situation. If you notice any changes in your symptoms, such as increased bleeding, pain, or changes in bowel habits, do not hesitate to seek medical attention promptly.
