Can I get pregnant?

Hello Doctor: On May 30th (Tuesday), I performed oral sex on my boyfriend and helped him masturbate with my hand, but we did not have sexual intercourse.
I have not had sexual relations with anyone else and have no sexual experience.
Afterward, when I helped my boyfriend clean up with a tissue, I came into contact with a small amount of semen.
A couple of minutes later, I threw away the tissue and immediately washed my hands with clean water.
After one or two minutes, I began to wash my genital area with a handheld showerhead using warm water.
I also used body wash to clean my genital area afterward.
I would like to know if this could lead to pregnancy.
My boyfriend also used body wash to clean his genital area, and some foam came into contact with my chest.
During the rinsing process, could this foam flow to my genital area and cause pregnancy? Since June 1st is around the first day of my ovulation period, I would like to know if there is a possibility of pregnancy.
Thank you, Doctor!

When it comes to the question of whether you can get pregnant from oral sex and skin contact, the short answer is that the likelihood is extremely low, but it is not entirely impossible under certain circumstances.
To understand this better, let's break down the components involved in your situation. Pregnancy typically occurs when sperm from a male fertilizes an egg from a female. This usually happens through vaginal intercourse, where sperm is deposited directly into the vagina. In your case, you mentioned engaging in oral sex and manual stimulation, which does not involve direct vaginal penetration.

1. Sperm Viability: Sperm can survive outside the body for a short period, but they are highly sensitive to environmental conditions. Once exposed to air, sperm begin to die quickly. The chances of sperm remaining viable after being transferred to a tissue and then coming into contact with your hands, followed by washing with water and soap, are very slim.
2. Washing and Cleaning: You mentioned that after coming into contact with semen, you washed your hands thoroughly with water and soap before cleaning your genital area. This action significantly reduces any potential risk of sperm being transferred to your vagina. The use of warm water and soap is effective in removing any residual sperm that may have been on your skin.

3. Timing and Ovulation: You indicated that your ovulation period began shortly after this encounter. While sperm can live inside the female reproductive tract for up to five days, the likelihood of sperm being transferred to your vagina through indirect contact (like touching your genitals after handling semen) is very low, especially after washing.

4. Skin Contact: Regarding the concern about soap or water from your boyfriend's body potentially transferring sperm to your genital area, it is important to note that sperm needs a specific environment to survive and swim towards an egg. The dilution and disruption caused by soap and water would further diminish any potential risk.

In summary, while it is theoretically possible for pregnancy to occur from indirect contact with sperm, the practical likelihood in your described scenario is exceedingly low. The combination of washing your hands, the short lifespan of sperm outside the body, and the nature of the activities you engaged in all contribute to a very minimal risk of pregnancy.

If you are still concerned about the possibility of pregnancy, consider taking a home pregnancy test if your period is late or consult with a healthcare provider for further guidance. Additionally, if you are sexually active and wish to avoid unintended pregnancies in the future, discussing contraceptive options with a healthcare professional would be beneficial.
