Gastrointestinal issues
Hello doctor, for the past few months, I have been experiencing pain when pressing about one centimeter to the left of my navel.
Sometimes, I also feel a sharp pain inside my abdomen, mostly on the right side.
My bowel movement frequency has changed from every two to three days to once or twice a day (this has been ongoing for three weeks).
Occasionally, I also experience nausea, especially after eating.
What could be the cause of these symptoms?

Abdominal pain and changes in bowel habits can be indicative of various gastrointestinal issues. Based on your description, it seems you are experiencing localized pain near your navel, changes in your bowel frequency, and occasional nausea after eating. These symptoms can be caused by a range of conditions, and understanding the underlying causes is crucial for appropriate management.
Firstly, the pain you feel when pressing on the left side of your abdomen could be related to several factors. One possibility is the presence of gas or bloating, which can cause discomfort and pain in the intestines. This is often associated with dietary choices, such as high fiber intake or consumption of gas-producing foods (like beans, cabbage, and carbonated beverages). Another potential cause could be constipation, which can lead to abdominal discomfort and changes in bowel habits. If you have been experiencing constipation, it may explain the increased frequency of bowel movements as your body attempts to relieve the buildup.
The change in your bowel habits from every few days to one to two times a day could also suggest a shift in your gastrointestinal function. This change might be due to dietary modifications, increased fluid intake, or the introduction of new medications or supplements. If you have recently started taking any new medications, it would be wise to consider their side effects, as some can alter bowel habits.
Nausea after eating can be a sign of several conditions, including gastritis, food intolerances, or even gastrointestinal reflux disease (GERD). If your stomach feels upset after meals, it might be worth evaluating what you are eating. Certain foods can trigger nausea, especially if they are rich, spicy, or fatty. Keeping a food diary can help identify any correlations between your meals and the onset of nausea.
Additionally, the presence of sharp or stabbing pain could indicate a more serious condition, such as appendicitis, diverticulitis, or even an intestinal obstruction. If the pain is severe, persistent, or accompanied by other symptoms like fever, vomiting, or significant changes in bowel habits (such as blood in the stool), it is crucial to seek medical attention promptly.
Given that your symptoms have persisted for several weeks, it would be advisable to consult a healthcare professional for a thorough evaluation. They may recommend diagnostic tests such as blood tests, imaging studies (like an ultrasound or CT scan), or endoscopic procedures to assess the condition of your gastrointestinal tract.
In summary, your symptoms could be attributed to a variety of gastrointestinal issues, including gas, constipation, dietary changes, or more serious conditions. It is essential to monitor your symptoms closely and seek medical advice to determine the underlying cause and appropriate treatment. Maintaining a balanced diet, staying hydrated, and managing stress can also contribute to better gastrointestinal health.
