It is unclear whether the bleeding is due to early pregnancy or an issue with ovarian function?
Hello Dr.
Huang: My last menstrual period was on April 16, with an average cycle of 39 days.
On May 6, I had external genital friction before using a condom for intercourse, which coincided with my ovulation period.
Normally, my period should have arrived on May 20, but it was delayed by 6 days (arriving on May 26).
I took a pregnancy test on the 8th day (May 28), which showed one line.
On June 1, I went to the gynecologist for a pregnancy test, which also indicated that I was not pregnant.
The doctor prescribed progesterone, but on the morning of June 8, I suddenly woke up with menstrual cramps and went to the bathroom, where my period started.
On the first day, the blood was bright red, on the second day it turned to a lighter dark red, and by the evening it was brown, but the period ended after two days and the cramps subsided.
From May 6 to June 10, my breasts did not feel swollen, and my body temperature did not show any significant increase, nor did I experience any nausea.
Recently, I have been preparing for exams and have been staying up late almost every day.
P.S.
I have not had any sexual intercourse since May 6.
Is there still a possibility of pregnancy? I am very anxious...

Dr. Huang Jianzhong reply Obstetrics and Gynecology
The last menstrual period started on April 16, with an average cycle length of 39 days.
On May 6, there was external genital rubbing followed by protected intercourse, which coincided with the ovulation period.
Normally, the next period was expected on May 20, but it was delayed by 6 days (arriving on May 26).
Pregnancy tests were taken on the 6th and 8th days (May 28), both showing a single line.
On June 1, a visit to the obstetrician confirmed no pregnancy, and the doctor prescribed progesterone.
However, on the morning of June 8, I suddenly experienced menstrual cramps and went to the bathroom, where menstruation began.
The first day of bleeding was bright red, the second day turned to a lighter dark red, and by evening it became brown, but the period ended after two days with no more cramps.
From May 6 to June 10, there was no breast tenderness, and there were no significant temperature increases or nausea symptoms.
Recently, with exams approaching, I have been staying up late and my sleep schedule has been disrupted.
P.S.
There has been no sexual activity since May 6.
Is there still a possibility of pregnancy? Answer: It is not possible to be pregnant.

More Info
Based on the information provided, it appears that you are experiencing a situation that many women encounter during their reproductive years, particularly when trying to conceive. Early pregnancy bleeding can be a source of confusion and concern, especially when combined with irregular menstrual cycles and the stress of academic pressures.
Firstly, let's address the possibility of early pregnancy. The timeline you provided indicates that your last menstrual period (LMP) was on April 16, with a typical cycle length of 39 days. This means that your next expected period would have been around May 25. You mentioned that you had unprotected sexual intercourse during your ovulation period on May 6, which is a critical time for conception. However, the home pregnancy tests you took on May 26 and May 28 were negative, and a subsequent visit to your gynecologist on June 1 also confirmed that you were not pregnant.
The bleeding you experienced on June 8, which started with bright red blood and transitioned to darker shades, is indicative of a menstrual period rather than implantation bleeding, which is typically lighter and shorter in duration. The fact that you experienced menstrual-like cramps and that the bleeding lasted only two days further supports the conclusion that this was indeed your period.
Regarding the possibility of ovarian issues, it is essential to note that irregular cycles can sometimes be attributed to various factors, including stress, hormonal imbalances, or underlying medical conditions such as polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). The stress of exams and changes in your sleep patterns could have contributed to the irregularity of your cycle.
In terms of your concerns about potential pregnancy, given the negative pregnancy tests and the onset of what appears to be a normal menstrual period, it is highly unlikely that you are pregnant. The absence of typical early pregnancy symptoms, such as breast tenderness, nausea, or elevated basal body temperature, further supports this conclusion.
If you continue to experience irregular cycles or have concerns about your reproductive health, it would be advisable to consult with a healthcare provider. They can perform further evaluations, including hormonal assessments or ultrasounds, to rule out any underlying conditions that may be affecting your menstrual cycle.
In summary, based on the details you've provided, it seems that your recent bleeding is most likely a normal menstrual period rather than a sign of early pregnancy or ovarian dysfunction. However, if you have ongoing concerns or if your cycles remain irregular, seeking medical advice would be a prudent step to ensure your reproductive health is monitored and managed appropriately.
