Nocturnal emissions and ejaculation?
Hello doctor, I am currently in high school.
I have developed an Adam's apple and other secondary sexual characteristics, but I have not experienced nocturnal emissions or ejaculation even once.
Is there a reason or problem for this? If I engage in sexual activity in the future, will I be able to ejaculate? (I do not engage in masturbation.) Could you please explain in detail?

Hello: If there are secondary sexual characteristics (sparse pubic hair does not count), whether or not there are nocturnal emissions or ejaculation varies from person to person.
However, if you notice that the pubic hair is only sparse, it is important to seek medical attention.

Nocturnal emissions, commonly referred to as "wet dreams," are a natural physiological phenomenon that typically occurs during adolescence. They are a sign of sexual maturation and are often associated with the onset of puberty. During this time, the body undergoes numerous changes, including the development of secondary sexual characteristics such as the growth of facial hair, deepening of the voice, and the development of the Adam's apple (or "thyroid cartilage").
In your case, it is important to understand that the absence of nocturnal emissions or ejaculation at this stage does not necessarily indicate a problem or a medical condition. Every individual develops at their own pace, and variations in sexual maturation can be quite normal. Some teenagers may experience nocturnal emissions frequently, while others may not have them at all, especially if they are not engaging in masturbation or sexual activity.
The fact that you have developed other secondary sexual characteristics suggests that your body is undergoing the changes associated with puberty. However, the timing of these changes can vary significantly from person to person. It is also worth noting that nocturnal emissions typically become more common as one approaches the later stages of adolescence.
Regarding your concern about future sexual activity, it is important to understand that the ability to ejaculate during sexual intercourse is not solely dependent on past experiences with nocturnal emissions or masturbation. Many individuals who have not experienced wet dreams or who do not engage in masturbation can still achieve ejaculation during sexual activity. The body is capable of producing sperm and semen as long as the reproductive system is functioning normally.
If you have concerns about your sexual health or development, it may be beneficial to speak with a healthcare professional who specializes in adolescent medicine or sexual health. They can provide personalized advice and reassurance based on your individual circumstances.
In addition to physical development, it is also essential to consider the emotional and psychological aspects of sexual health. Adolescence can be a confusing time, and it is normal to have questions and concerns about sexual maturity and relationships. Open communication with trusted adults, such as parents or healthcare providers, can help alleviate anxiety and provide accurate information.
In summary, the absence of nocturnal emissions or ejaculation at this stage of your development is not uncommon and does not necessarily indicate a problem. As you continue to grow and mature, your body will likely undergo further changes, and you may begin to experience nocturnal emissions in the future. If you have any ongoing concerns, do not hesitate to reach out to a healthcare professional for guidance and support.
