Narrow penis during adolescence?
I am 19 years old and have suspected that I have phimosis since I was in the second year of junior high school.
However, after researching, I learned that it might be due to a narrow penis.
I have also noticed a lot of white discharge, and after cleaning, I found a dark ring around the glans.
When engorged, the glans seems to have slightly raised bumps.
Other than that, there are no unusual symptoms.
I am concerned about potentially transmitting anything to my sexual partner, so I am asking for your advice.
Please help me, doctor!

Understanding concerns related to a narrow penis in adolescents is essential, especially when it comes to sexual health and hygiene. It’s commendable that you are seeking information about your condition, as awareness and education are crucial for addressing health issues.
From your description, it seems you may be experiencing a condition known as phimosis, which is when the foreskin cannot be easily retracted over the glans (the head of the penis). This condition can lead to the accumulation of smegma, a substance made up of dead skin cells and oils, which can appear as white discharge. The presence of a dark ring around the glans and the appearance of small bumps when engorged could be related to several factors, including irritation or inflammation.
First and foremost, it’s important to maintain proper hygiene. Regular cleaning of the area is vital to prevent infections and the buildup of smegma. You should gently retract the foreskin (if possible) during bathing to clean the area thoroughly. If you find that you cannot retract the foreskin without pain, this is a sign that you may need to consult a healthcare professional.
Regarding your concern about transmitting any potential infections to your sexual partner, it’s crucial to have a thorough examination by a healthcare provider. They can assess whether there is an underlying infection or any other condition that needs to be treated. Conditions such as balanitis (inflammation of the glans) or sexually transmitted infections (STIs) can present with similar symptoms, and a healthcare professional can provide appropriate testing and treatment options.
If you are diagnosed with phimosis and it is causing you discomfort or hygiene issues, treatment options may include:
1. Topical Steroid Creams: These can help to soften the foreskin and make it easier to retract over time.
2. Gentle Stretching Exercises: Under the guidance of a healthcare provider, you may be advised to perform gentle stretching of the foreskin to increase its elasticity.
3. Circumcision: In cases where phimosis is severe and does not respond to conservative treatments, circumcision (the surgical removal of the foreskin) may be recommended.
It’s important to note that many young men experience similar concerns, and you are not alone in this. Open communication with your healthcare provider is key. They can provide reassurance, education, and treatment options tailored to your specific situation.
Lastly, if you are feeling anxious about your sexual health or any aspect of your body, consider speaking with a mental health professional. They can help you navigate any feelings of shame or anxiety related to your condition, which is just as important as addressing the physical aspects.
In summary, while concerns about a narrow penis and related symptoms can be distressing, they are manageable with the right medical guidance. Prioritize your health by seeking a consultation with a healthcare provider who specializes in urology or sexual health. They will be able to provide you with the most accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment options.
