Effects of Masturbation
Hello, doctor.
I have approximately 3 to 4 years of experience with masturbation, mostly once a day, and I have some questions to ask you.
1.
I have a slightly raised blue vein on the top of my penis that is quite noticeable (similar to the veins on my wrist), and it is about the same length as my penis.
Is this a sign of a varicocele? (Because I recall that blue veins are veins.) Is this related to my frequency of ejaculation, or is it something I shouldn't worry about?
2.
After doing some research, I understand that masturbation is not directly linked to benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), prostate cancer, or other related conditions.
However, I have started experiencing a soft, aching sensation in the perineum (the area between the testicles and the anus) after ejaculation, accompanied by difficulty urinating, with a strong urge but unable to urinate (it feels like suddenly holding back urine halfway through).
Although this sensation gradually decreases over time, I still feel a sense of residual urine.
What could this symptom, which seems to indicate BPH, be related to? Is there a way to improve it?
3.
I currently feel that my urine flow is not as strong as before; sometimes it dribbles, and I often have a few drops left after urination.
I now use tissue paper to press on the urethral opening to absorb the remaining urine.
What could be the issue here? Could using tissue paper (gently pressing, not applying much force) cause injury to the urethra?
4.
Shortly after urinating, I often feel the urge to urinate again.
I know I should drink about 2000cc of water a day, but sometimes after drinking a few glasses, I feel the urge to urinate again, which makes me hesitant to drink too much.
When I do go to the bathroom, I only pass a small amount, and it feels like I have residual urine.
I want to hold it longer to increase the volume before urinating, but it feels uncomfortable.
Sometimes, pressure on the penis also triggers the urge to urinate.
Is this a sign of overactive bladder syndrome, or is it related to another condition?
5.
I sometimes have a habit of delaying ejaculation, wanting to accumulate more before releasing.
However, I just read that this might not be good for me.
Is there a connection between this behavior and the symptoms mentioned above?
6.
Do these symptoms require medical attention? If not, is there a way for me to heal on my own? (I am currently trying to abstain and reduce the frequency of masturbation.)

Hello: 1) Irrelevant 2) Exercise is important; avoid prolonged sitting.
3) A normal lifestyle with moderate exercise will lead to improvement.
Will wiping with tissue (gently, without applying much pressure) cause injury to the urethra? --> No.
4) For young people, 2000cc is not enough; increase water intake, avoid sugary drinks, and steer clear of spicy foods.
Don't let chronic dehydration lead to other issues.
5) Stop that; it shouldn't be a significant concern.
6) If it affects your daily life, consult a doctor; if not, try to adjust your lifestyle first.
Wishing you good health.

Masturbation is a common activity that many individuals engage in, and it can have various effects on urological health. Your questions touch on several important aspects of this topic, including concerns about visible veins, urinary symptoms, and the potential impact of masturbation on prostate health. Let's address each of your concerns in detail.
1. Visible Blue Vein on the Penis: The blue vein you are observing on the upper side of your penis is likely a normal anatomical feature. The penis contains several veins, and it is common for them to be more prominent in some individuals, especially if you have a lower body fat percentage or increased blood flow due to arousal or physical activity. This is not necessarily indicative of a condition like varicocele (which is a dilation of the veins within the scrotum) unless you are experiencing pain or discomfort. Your frequency of ejaculation is unlikely to be directly related to the visibility of this vein.
2. Pelvic Discomfort and Urinary Symptoms: The sensations you describe in the perineal area (the space between the scrotum and anus) after ejaculation, along with urinary difficulties, could be related to several factors. While masturbation itself does not cause prostate enlargement or cancer, it can lead to temporary pelvic floor muscle tension, which might contribute to discomfort and urinary urgency. If you are experiencing a persistent feeling of incomplete bladder emptying, it may be worth consulting a healthcare provider to rule out conditions such as prostatitis or benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), especially if you are experiencing these symptoms frequently.
3. Weak Urine Stream and Post-Void Dribbling: A decrease in the force of your urine stream and the sensation of residual urine can be associated with several factors, including pelvic floor muscle dysfunction or prostate issues. Using tissue to absorb residual urine is generally safe if done gently; however, if you are experiencing significant discomfort or if the dribbling persists, it may be advisable to seek medical advice. A healthcare professional can assess your urinary function and provide guidance on pelvic floor exercises or other interventions.
4. Frequent Urination and Urgency: The symptoms you describe, such as frequent urination and a feeling of urgency, could suggest overactive bladder (OAB). This condition can be influenced by various factors, including fluid intake, bladder irritants (like caffeine or alcohol), and pelvic floor muscle tension. Keeping a bladder diary to track your fluid intake and urinary patterns can be helpful in identifying triggers. If these symptoms are bothersome, a healthcare provider can offer treatment options, which may include lifestyle modifications, bladder training, or medications.
5. Delayed Ejaculation and Its Effects: Delaying ejaculation intentionally can sometimes lead to increased tension in the pelvic floor muscles, which may contribute to the symptoms you are experiencing. While occasional practice of this is not harmful, if it becomes a frequent habit, it could lead to discomfort or complications. It’s essential to listen to your body and not push beyond your comfort level.
6. Seeking Medical Attention: Given the symptoms you are experiencing, it would be prudent to consult with a urologist or healthcare provider. They can perform a thorough evaluation, including a physical examination and possibly some diagnostic tests, to determine if there are any underlying conditions that need to be addressed. While some symptoms may resolve with lifestyle changes, professional guidance is essential for persistent or concerning issues.
In summary, while masturbation itself is not harmful and does not directly cause significant urological issues, the symptoms you are experiencing warrant further investigation. It is essential to maintain open communication with a healthcare provider to ensure your urological health is managed appropriately.
