Stool becomes loose and watery?

Hello Doctor, I have recently noticed some abnormalities in my stool.
The color is dark brown or yellow-brown, and the consistency feels very soft and mushy.
Sometimes it forms a C-shape, other times a U-shape, and at times it resembles melted ice cream with a swirling pattern.
Occasionally, I also pass loose stools that are watery, with a surface that has a frayed appearance and floats on the water.
While it may not be visible at first glance, I can feel a wetness when wiping with toilet paper.
Additionally, I sometimes experience a sensation of incomplete evacuation.
This situation has persisted for a month.
My weight is 32 kilograms, and I drink 800 to 1000 milliliters of water daily, consume a fistful of vegetables, and walk for an hour as exercise.
Currently, I have a bowel movement once a day, occasionally every two days, and I go to bed around midnight.
I would like to ask the doctor if this could be a sign of colorectal cancer.
Furthermore, every night when I lie down to sleep, I can feel a bubbling sensation in my abdomen, accompanied by faint gurgling sounds that continue persistently.
Is this normal?

It is recommended to maintain a normal and balanced diet.
If there is no improvement, you may consult a gastroenterologist at Changhua Hospital to address your health concerns.

Understanding soft and watery stools can be complex, as they can arise from a variety of causes, ranging from dietary changes to underlying medical conditions. Based on your description, it seems you are experiencing a significant change in your bowel habits, characterized by soft, sometimes watery stools, and a sensation of incomplete evacuation.
Firstly, it is important to note that the consistency and appearance of stools can be influenced by many factors, including diet, hydration, and gastrointestinal health. The fact that your stools are described as soft and sometimes resembling "melted ice cream" suggests that there may be an issue with how your body is processing food or absorbing nutrients. The presence of floating stools can indicate a higher fat content, which might be due to malabsorption issues, where your intestines are not properly absorbing fats and other nutrients.

Your concern about whether these symptoms could be indicative of colorectal cancer is understandable, especially given the changes you've noticed. However, it is crucial to remember that colorectal cancer typically presents with a combination of symptoms, including changes in bowel habits, blood in the stool, unexplained weight loss, and abdominal discomfort. While your symptoms warrant further investigation, they are not definitive indicators of cancer.
The sensation of "bubbling" or gurgling in your abdomen is generally a normal occurrence, often related to the movement of gas and fluids through the intestines. This can be more pronounced in individuals with increased intestinal motility or sensitivity, which can occur with dietary changes, stress, or gastrointestinal disorders.

Given your symptoms have persisted for a month, it would be advisable to consult a healthcare professional, preferably a gastroenterologist. They may recommend further diagnostic tests, such as stool studies to check for infections, malabsorption syndromes, or inflammatory bowel disease. Additionally, a colonoscopy may be suggested to visualize the colon and rule out any serious conditions.

In the meantime, consider keeping a food diary to track what you eat and how it correlates with your bowel movements. This can help identify any potential dietary triggers. A balanced diet rich in fiber, adequate hydration, and regular physical activity are essential for maintaining healthy bowel function. However, if you suspect that certain foods (like dairy or high-fat foods) are contributing to your symptoms, it may be beneficial to eliminate them temporarily and observe any changes.

In summary, while your symptoms are concerning and should be evaluated by a healthcare professional, they are not necessarily indicative of colorectal cancer. A thorough assessment, including a detailed medical history and appropriate diagnostic tests, will be crucial in determining the underlying cause of your symptoms and guiding effective treatment.
