Pain at the base of the penis on the right side?
Hello, doctor.
One night after masturbating and getting ready for bed, my penis became erect again.
It was uncomfortable to sleep on it, so I adjusted it upwards but accidentally pressed on it, which caused sudden pain on the right side of the base of my penis.
For the next few days, whenever my penis became erect and I adjusted it upwards, it would hurt if pressed.
I wondered if it was inflammation, so I pressed on the painful area and found a small lump beneath the skin (not visible on the surface) at the site of the pain.
I searched online and found that it could be prostatitis, but I do not have any of the symptoms associated with prostatitis, so I wanted to ask for your advice.

Hello: It is unlikely to be prostatitis; it should be due to an injury.
If it hasn't improved after so many days, you should seek medical evaluation.
Wishing you good health.

Pain at the base of the penis can be concerning and may arise from various causes. Based on your description, it seems that the pain started after an incident where you pressed on the base of the penis during an erection. This could suggest a few potential issues that warrant further exploration.
1. Trauma or Injury: The immediate cause of your pain could be a minor trauma or injury to the area. The penis is a sensitive organ, and any pressure or impact can lead to discomfort or pain. If you pressed too hard, it might have caused some temporary irritation or inflammation in the tissues surrounding the base of the penis.
2. Peyronie's Disease: This condition involves the development of fibrous scar tissue inside the penis, which can lead to curved, painful erections. While it typically presents with a noticeable bend in the penis, it can also cause localized pain, especially if there is trauma involved.
3. Infection or Inflammation: Although you mentioned that you do not have symptoms of prostatitis (inflammation of the prostate), it is still possible to have localized inflammation or infection in the area. Conditions such as epididymitis (inflammation of the epididymis) or urethritis (inflammation of the urethra) could also cause pain at the base of the penis.
4. Cysts or Nodules: You mentioned feeling a "little something" under the skin at the site of pain. This could potentially be a cyst or a benign growth, such as a sebaceous cyst, which can sometimes develop in the genital area. These are usually harmless but can cause discomfort if they become inflamed or infected.
5. Nerve Irritation: The pain could also be related to nerve irritation or entrapment in the pelvic region. This can happen due to various reasons, including muscle tension or injury.
Recommendations:
1. Avoid Aggravating Activities: Until you have a clearer understanding of the cause of your pain, it would be wise to avoid activities that may exacerbate the discomfort, such as vigorous sexual activity or any pressure on the area.
2. Consult a Healthcare Provider: Given the persistence of your symptoms and the presence of a palpable lump, it is essential to consult a healthcare provider, preferably a urologist. They can perform a physical examination and may recommend imaging studies, such as an ultrasound, to evaluate the area more thoroughly.
3. Monitor Symptoms: Keep track of any changes in your symptoms, including the intensity of the pain, any swelling, or changes in urination. This information will be helpful for your healthcare provider.
4. Consider Pain Management: Over-the-counter pain relief medications, such as ibuprofen or acetaminophen, may help alleviate discomfort in the short term. However, this should not replace a proper diagnosis and treatment plan from a healthcare professional.
5. Avoid Self-Diagnosis: While it is tempting to search for answers online, self-diagnosing can lead to unnecessary anxiety and misinterpretation of symptoms. It is always best to seek professional medical advice for accurate diagnosis and treatment.
In conclusion, while the pain at the base of your penis may be due to a minor injury or irritation, it is crucial to have it evaluated by a medical professional to rule out any serious conditions and to receive appropriate treatment.
