Anal issues
Recently, while at a relative's house, I had a bowel movement and noticed that my stool was a bit hard.
After wiping with a flat tissue, there was a red liquid on the tissue that looked like blood (similar to the blood that comes out when you pop a pimple).
When I got home and used a handheld shower to clean myself, I felt pain in one area when the water touched it, but when I touched it with my hand, I didn't feel anything.
What could be the issue? Thank you, doctor.

Rectal bleeding is considered an abnormal symptom and can range from common conditions such as hemorrhoids to more serious gastrointestinal diseases.
Based on your description, the likelihood of hemorrhoidal bleeding is the highest.
It is recommended that you visit a hospital's surgical or gastroenterology department for further evaluation.

More Info
When experiencing blood and pain after bowel movements, it can be concerning and may indicate several underlying issues. Based on your description, it seems that you may have encountered a common problem known as anal fissures or hemorrhoids, especially since you mentioned that your stool was dry.
Causes of Blood and Pain After Bowel Movements:
1. Anal Fissures: These are small tears in the lining of the anus, often caused by passing hard or dry stools. The pain can be sharp and may lead to bleeding, which is typically bright red and noticeable on toilet paper after wiping. The pain can be exacerbated by water contact, as you described, due to the sensitivity of the area.
2. Hemorrhoids: These are swollen veins in the lower rectum and anus that can cause discomfort, itching, and bleeding. Like fissures, hemorrhoids can bleed bright red blood, especially during bowel movements. They can be internal (inside the rectum) or external (under the skin around the anus).
3. Other Causes: While fissures and hemorrhoids are the most common causes, other potential issues could include infections, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), or even more serious conditions like colorectal polyps or cancer. However, these are less common, especially in younger individuals without other risk factors.
What to Do Next:
1. Hydration and Diet: Ensure you are drinking plenty of water and consuming a high-fiber diet. This can help soften your stool and make bowel movements easier, reducing the risk of further irritation or injury.
2. Sitz Baths: Taking warm sitz baths can help soothe the area and promote healing. This involves sitting in a few inches of warm water for about 15-20 minutes, several times a day, especially after bowel movements.
3. Topical Treatments: Over-the-counter creams or ointments designed for hemorrhoids or fissures can provide relief from pain and promote healing. Look for products containing hydrocortisone or witch hazel.
4. Avoid Straining: When using the bathroom, try not to strain or sit for long periods. If you feel the urge to go, do so promptly to avoid hardening of the stool.
5. Consult a Healthcare Provider: If the bleeding continues, the pain worsens, or you notice other symptoms (like changes in bowel habits, weight loss, or severe abdominal pain), it’s essential to seek medical attention. A healthcare provider can perform a physical examination and may recommend further tests, such as a colonoscopy, to rule out more serious conditions.
Conclusion:
In summary, while the presence of blood and pain after bowel movements can be alarming, it is often due to relatively benign conditions like anal fissures or hemorrhoids. However, it is crucial to monitor your symptoms and seek medical advice if they persist or worsen. Taking proactive steps in terms of diet, hydration, and self-care can significantly aid in recovery and prevent future occurrences. Always prioritize your health and consult with a healthcare professional for personalized advice and treatment options.
