Concerns about circumcision?

I am planning to undergo a circumcision procedure after the winter break because I have phimosis and cannot retract my foreskin.
If I have excess foreskin, will it just be removed, or will I need stitches? I am currently 23 years old; will there be any color difference afterward? Should I buy scar ointment? Will circumcision really make my penis look larger? I've heard some people say it will look smaller; is this variable among individuals?
I am considering the traditional circumcision method, but I would like to inquire about the pros and cons of laser circumcision and a device that automatically sutures (a pressure-operated machine).
I've heard that laser and machine methods are just gimmicks.

Regarding the surgery, I understand that there will be a curtain to prevent me from seeing the procedure, but I have looked for videos of circumcision surgeries (traditional, laser, and machine) to prepare myself.
Can I request to watch the surgery with my doctor? Would that be considered strange? Also, what happens to the foreskin that is removed? Does the doctor just dispose of it? I apologize for asking somewhat unusual questions, and I hope you can provide some answers.
Thank you!

Hello: After surgery, suturing is required, and there may be some discoloration.
The use of scar ointment depends on individual constitution; some people heal well without applying it.
I personally believe it is very important to follow the doctor's instructions post-surgery.
Laser procedures result in less bleeding, and the machine does not require the doctor to suture.
However, if you compare the results after 1-2 weeks, the latter may appear more aesthetically pleasing; perhaps after 2 months, they will be similar.
If you want to see the surgical process, can you request to watch it with the doctor? --> No, because you are lying flat during the surgery, and the excised foreskin is directly disposed of by the doctor (usually handled according to government regulations).
Wishing you good health.

More Info

Circumcision, or the surgical removal of the foreskin from the penis, is a procedure that can be performed for various reasons, including medical, cultural, or personal preferences. If you are considering this surgery due to phimosis (the inability to retract the foreskin), it is important to understand the procedure, recovery, and potential outcomes.

Concerns and Techniques
1. Surgical Techniques: The most common method for circumcision is the traditional surgical approach, which involves cutting away the excess foreskin and usually requires sutures to close the incision. There are also alternative methods, such as laser circumcision and the use of a circumcision device (often referred to as a "clamp" or "device-assisted" method). Each technique has its pros and cons:
- Traditional Circumcision: This method is well-established and allows for precise control during the procedure. It typically involves suturing the incision, which may lead to a longer recovery time.

- Laser Circumcision: This technique uses a laser to remove the foreskin, which may result in less bleeding and a potentially quicker recovery. However, it may not be available in all surgical centers.

- Device-Assisted Circumcision: This method uses a specialized device to perform the circumcision and often includes automatic suturing. It can be quicker and may reduce the risk of complications, but some argue that it may not provide the same level of precision as traditional methods.

2. Recovery Insights: Post-operative care is crucial for a smooth recovery. You may experience swelling, discomfort, or pain in the days following the procedure. Pain management typically involves over-the-counter pain relievers. It is also important to keep the area clean and follow your surgeon's instructions regarding activity restrictions. Most patients can return to normal activities within a week or two, but full healing may take longer.

Aesthetic Concerns
Regarding your concerns about appearance, it is common for individuals to worry about changes in size or color after circumcision. The penis may appear larger or smaller post-surgery, but this is subjective and varies from person to person. Color differences may also occur due to the removal of the foreskin, which can expose the glans (the head of the penis) that may have a different pigmentation. Using scar creams or ointments post-surgery can help minimize scarring, but results can vary.

Viewing the Procedure
It is understandable to have curiosity about the surgical process. While many surgical centers have protocols that prevent patients from viewing their own surgeries for safety and psychological reasons, you can certainly express your interest to your surgeon. They may allow you to view the procedure through a monitor or provide you with educational materials. However, it is essential to consider that watching the surgery may not be suitable for everyone and could lead to anxiety.

Disposal of the Foreskin
As for the foreskin that is removed during the procedure, it is typically disposed of as medical waste. If you have specific wishes regarding this, it is best to discuss them with your surgeon beforehand.

Conclusion
In summary, circumcision can be a straightforward procedure with a generally positive outcome when performed by a qualified surgeon. It is essential to discuss all your concerns and preferences with your healthcare provider to ensure that you are well-informed and comfortable with your decision. Each method has its advantages, and the choice should be based on your specific needs and the recommendations of your medical team.
