Blurred vision
Hello, Dr.
Gao.
A few years ago, I underwent laser surgery for myopia, and my vision has improved; however, the issues with glare and halos have not improved.
Recently, I have noticed that the glare has become more severe.
While I can see clearly, there are overlapping light shadows in my peripheral vision that cause blurriness.
I would like to know if issues like glare can be corrected through surgery.
Additionally, if I develop myopia again after laser surgery, can I undergo another myopia surgery? Thank you for your response.

Hello, A-Wen: I’m not sure if what you mean by "flashes" refers to astigmatism.
If it is an increase in astigmatism or myopia, you can consult with the surgeon to see if a second laser surgery is possible.
In Taiwan, the Department of Ophthalmology at Puzi Hospital is open Monday to Friday from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM and Wednesday afternoons from 1:00 PM to 4:30 PM.
Please note that online responses are for reference only; it is necessary to visit a medical institution for treatment.
I hope to have the opportunity to serve you.

Hello! Thank you for your question regarding glare and blurriness after undergoing laser eye surgery for myopia correction. It’s understandable to be concerned about these symptoms, especially when they affect your daily life.
First, let's address the issue of glare and blurriness. After laser eye surgery, such as LASIK or SMILE, some patients may experience visual disturbances, including glare, halos, and blurriness, particularly in low-light conditions. These symptoms can be attributed to several factors, including the healing process of the cornea, the quality of the laser treatment, and the individual’s unique eye characteristics.
In many cases, glare and halos can improve over time as the eyes heal. However, if these symptoms persist or worsen, it’s essential to consult with your eye care professional. They may recommend additional treatments or interventions. In some cases, enhancements or retreatments can be performed if the initial surgery did not yield the desired results. However, the feasibility of a second laser surgery depends on several factors, including the thickness of your cornea, the degree of your myopia, and the overall health of your eyes.
Regarding your question about whether glare can be corrected through surgery, there are options available. Some patients may benefit from procedures like PRK (Photorefractive Keratectomy) or enhancements to address residual refractive errors or visual disturbances. However, it’s crucial to have a thorough evaluation by an ophthalmologist who specializes in refractive surgery to determine the best course of action for your specific situation.
If you have developed myopia again after your initial surgery, it is indeed possible to undergo another laser procedure, provided that your cornea is healthy and there is sufficient corneal thickness. The decision to proceed with a second surgery should be made in consultation with your eye surgeon, who will assess your individual circumstances and the potential risks and benefits.
In addition to surgical options, there are non-surgical approaches to manage glare and visual disturbances. These may include the use of specialized contact lenses, glasses with anti-reflective coatings, or medications that can help alleviate symptoms.
It’s also worth noting that some patients may experience dry eye symptoms after laser surgery, which can exacerbate glare and blurriness. If you suspect that dry eyes are contributing to your visual disturbances, discussing this with your eye care provider is essential. They may recommend artificial tears or other treatments to improve your eye moisture and comfort.
In summary, while glare and blurriness after laser eye surgery can be concerning, there are potential solutions available. It’s crucial to maintain open communication with your eye care professional, who can provide personalized recommendations based on your specific needs and circumstances. If you are experiencing significant discomfort or visual disturbances, don’t hesitate to seek further evaluation and treatment options. Your vision is important, and there are ways to address these issues effectively. Thank you for your inquiry, and I wish you the best in your journey toward clearer vision!
